We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Bookkeeper to monitor the finances of our growing company.

We have a small and dedicated team, and we are looking for someone who can flex in the work they do, who likes variety and being busy.

We work with great entrepreneurs every day, we feed off of their positive energy and the understanding that our operational work supports their success. The work will cover the finance spectrum, you will do everything from report preparation to completing bi-weekly payroll for a small team. You show up everyday with a positive and professional attitude and are good with people at all levels of an organization. We have clients that live all over the world and we have both Canadian and US reporting so you have to be comfortable with exchange rates and working with different currencies.

This role is a remote, work from home position. You have to have the drive to excel working independently but the relationship skills to work well with your remote colleagues. Want to hit the gym during the work day? No problem - you can adjust your daily schedule around your workload and meetings to ensure a better integration of work and life.

You’re a master of everything you try- not because you’re great at everything, but because you don’t give up and you’re resourceful. Tech savviness is important, too. We need somebody who is extremely comfortable online and eats, sleeps, and breathes Google Sheets (and Excel). Our ideal candidate has three or more years of professional accounting experience with a track record for providing accurate and efficient work.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintains and balances financial records, reconciles accounts, prepares financial statements, and assists with tax preparation, all while adhering to accounting principles and legal requirements
  • Controlling and verifying our financial transactions and generating error-free, reports, financial records and statements
  • Chart of Accounts, General Ledger, and P&L Oversight
  • Tax Filings
  • Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable
  • Completes bi-weekly payroll and associated reporting
  • Maintain account balances and bank statements
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with finance roles
  • Updates and maintains regular reports
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Proven proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, in particular strong Excel, and accounting software. Proficiency with Google Suite, in particular Google Sheets is also required
  • Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and provincial/national regulations
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
  • College diploma/certificate in accounting, significant bookkeeping experience (7-10 years preferred), and proficiency in accounting software.
