Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Battery Storage Engineer to join their renewable energy team in Kimberley. You will lead design, integration, and optimization of utility-scale and behind-the-meter BESS projects, ensuring reliability and safety across the full project lifecycle.

The role requires a strong background in electrical or chemical engineering, expertise in batteries, power electronics, EMS, and SCADA, plus experience with grid interconnection and regulatory frameworks.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 6 years of professional experience in design, engineering, or integration of battery energy storage systems.
Strong knowledge of battery chemistries, power electronics, EMS, and SCADA.
Experience with grid interconnection requirements and regulatory frameworks for energy storage.

Responsibilities

Lead the technical design and engineering of utility-scale and behind-the-meter battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Develop technical specifications for BESS components, including batteries, inverters, control systems, and safety equipment.
Conduct system integration studies, ensuring seamless operation with renewable energy sources and the grid.
Analyze performance data, troubleshoot issues, and optimize BESS operation for maximum efficiency and reliability.
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety standards, codes, and regulations for energy storage systems.
Collaborate with project managers, EPC contractors, and grid operators throughout the project lifecycle.
