Lightfox Games in Vancouver seeks a Server Engineer to work on an unannounced mobile game for a world-class IP. The role is hybrid, with about 50% in-person at the Vancouver studio.

You will design, build, and maintain scalable server-side systems powering player data, live ops, matchmaking, and social features, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver a great player experience. Ownership and proactive problem solving are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with backend ownership on a shipped title.
• Proficiency in TypeScript and at least one backend language (Go, Python, or Rust).
• Experience designing/maintaining RESTful or real-time APIs with networking basics.
• Familiarity with GCP or Firebase tech stack: deployment, monitoring, scaling.
• Strong problem solving, collaboration, and ability to own features end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable server-side systems for core game features.
• Collaborate with Gameplay, Design, and Producers to ship backend features.
• Own backend features end-to-end from design to live support.
• Build observable, reliable services with scalability for growing player base.
• Contribute to backend architecture decisions and engineering standards.
