Job summary

Abbeal is seeking a Senior Back-end Developer to own Java Spring Boot microservices and AWS integrations in a Montreal-based, hybrid role. You will contribute to Enterprise Content Management by building REST APIs and modernizing document systems for production readiness.

The role targets senior/principal developers with hands-on leadership, production ownership, and collaboration with a major bank's ECM team. Fluency in French is required for daily work, with English a plus.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of Java back-end development for senior level.
• Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Security, and microservices.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, testing (JUnit/Mockito), and cloud (AWS).

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices in Java Spring Boot.
• Modernize the document management solutions and integrate them with AWS (S3, Lambda, API Gateway, ECS or EKS, RDS/Aurora).
• Automate the CI/CD pipeline and write tests (JUnit, Mockito), code reviews included.
• Take your share of production support, with observability and application security in mind.

Senior Back-end Developer, Java Spring Boot and AWS, Enterprise Content Management, major bank, Montreal (hybrid)

Evolve the document management applications of a major Canadian bank: Java Spring Boot microservices, REST APIs, AWS integration. Senior or principal level, permanent role with Abbeal, Montreal hybrid.

The Enterprise Content Management (ECM) team of a major Canadian bank is modernizing its document applications and moving them closer to AWS. They need a senior or principal Java back-end developer who can own code in production and help the team level up.

What you will do

• Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices in Java Spring Boot
• Modernize the document management solutions and integrate them with AWS (S3, Lambda, API Gateway, ECS or EKS, RDS/Aurora)
• Automate the CI/CD pipeline and write tests (JUnit, Mockito), code reviews included
• Take your share of production support, with observability and application security in mind

What we are looking for

• 5 to 7 years of Java back-end development for the senior level, 7+ years with real technical leadership for the principal level
• Java 11, 17 or 21, Spring Boot, Spring Security, Swagger/OpenAPI, microservices architecture
• Git, Maven or Gradle, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions or Jenkins
• French is required day to day, English is a plus
• Experience with document management (Box, FileNet, CMOD, IBM Content Navigator, DocuSign) or banking is a strong asset

Terms

• Montreal, hybrid, 2 days a week in the office
• Permanent Abbeal employees only (no freelance on this role), on-site with the client
