Position: Senior Associate or Finance Manager, Mid-Market Lending – Western Canada Region

Employment Type: Permanent

Compensation Details:

  • Underwriter 17: $83,037 - $110,717 plus a performance-based incentive.

  • Underwriter 18: $94,664 - $126,219 plus a performance-based incentive.

  • Underwriter 19: $109,810 - $146,413 plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change).

  • This role can be performed from one of EDC’s Community Hubs located in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, or Winnipeg.

  • Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.

Team & Job Overview

The Mid-Market Lending Team is a regionally based underwriting team serving EDC’s 2030 Mid-Market Segment Strategy to deliver financing support to growth companies in the segment. EDC develops deep customer relationships with Canadian medium-sized firms to deliver customized, non-dilutive, patient capital solutions that catalyze growth and international expansion.

As an experienced financing professional focused on company growth strategies, the Financing Manager/Senior Associate applies deep expertise in commercial lending, structured finance, and capital markets. Operating within a deal team across Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton, and serving clients throughout Western Canada (BC, AB, SK, MB), the role requires agility in dynamic environments, collaborating with teams from Ottawa, other Canadian regions, and international offices.

The successful candidate shall demonstrate financial curiosity to understand business strategies and risk drivers, entrepreneurial approaches to generating enterprise value, adherence to collaborative cross-functional relationships for problem solving, and EDC’s value proposition to the Mid-market customer segment. EDC’s financing can accelerate international growth for Canadian companies.

What you will be doing
  • Lead and negotiate complex transactions with Canadian exporters, including those with international financing risks; manage loan portfolios; assess and mitigate transaction and portfolio risks.

  • Determine financial eligibility of counterparties and review legal documents including security agreements with Legal counsel.

  • Formulate viable risk/return profiles for each loan.

  • Recommend financing commitments within program parameters, policies, and guidelines.

  • Apply Lean/Agile principles to lead process improvements and contribute to team and cross-functional initiatives.

What we are looking for
  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business, Finance, Economics or Accounting and/or relevant direct lending experience (or equivalent).

  • 5-10 years of experience in independent structuring/restructuring in structured financing solutions including junior capital.

  • Strong skills in financial analysis, credit assessment, financial modeling, and deal structuring; lending experience with unique financing structures and/or foreign jurisdictions is a plus.

  • Collaborative and adaptable team player with strong communication skills, experienced in coordinating complex transactions across multiple teams.

What will make you stand out
  • Masters of Commerce in related fields.

  • Bilingual in English and French.

  • Professional designation under CFA, CBV, CPA; MBA or similar.
