About the Role - We’re seeking an eager, self-motivated lead ready to leverage their education as a foundation for growth and to mentor junior team members. This role is at the forefront of innovation at our client, focused on delivering APIs to market in a unique way in Canada. You will be a developer and a key team member shaping the future of delivery in the insurance industry. The position can be located in Downtown Toronto, North York, or Waterloo, depending on your preference.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, deployment, and rollout of enhancements on the API Platform, both in the cloud and on-premise.
• Participate in designing delivery solutions aligned with business and technical requirements.
• Design and implement automation features to improve efficiency and reliability.
• Consult on API standards and best practices with business delivery teams, especially regarding REST APIs.
• Maintain and improve core infrastructure, including gateway/service-mesh, runtimes, security, logging, and exception handling.
• Utilize CI/CD pipelines for API platform enhancements.
• Identify defects proactively, debug issues, and implement effective solutions.
• Design, run, and interpret performance and load tests, implementing necessary optimizations.
• Mentor and coach team members on build and deployment best practices.
• Ensure projects adhere to best practices in continuous integration and delivery.
• Collaborate with business and technology partners to implement new technologies supporting API governance and standardization across Sun Life.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration guides, and troubleshooting steps.
• Continuously seek and implement improvements to enhance scalability and performance of the CDC solution.

Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

Required Skills - 8+ years of experience programming in Java. Experience with DevOps, Kubernetes, and AWS Cloud. Understanding of APIs, event-driven solutions, containers, and cloud technologies. Self-starter with inquisitiveness, proactive problem-solving skills, and a desire to learn. Knowledge of REST API design standards and familiarity with API specifications like OpenAPI.
