Job summary

Versaterm, a PE-backed, high-growth SaaS company serving the public safety ecosystem, seeks a Staff Software Engineer for Android to shape technical direction and lead the team from concept to release.

You will mentor engineers, design scalable architectures, integrate with REST and WebRTC backends, support offline-first capabilities, and collaborate with hardware partners across diverse devices, drones, and body-worn cameras.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years Android development experience and prior leadership of a team.
• Proven collaboration and problem decomposition skills.
• Passion for reducing friction and delivering simplicity.
• Proficiency in Kotlin with Jetpack (CameraX, Compose).
• Solid understanding of asynchronous/reactive programming (Flows, RxJava).
• Experience with Firebase (Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics).
• Exposure to CI/CD tools (GitHub, GitLab).
• Ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic guidance and mentorship to Android engineers.
• Lead design and architecture of complex Android apps for scalability and performance.
• Implement and utilize robotics to assist the public safety mission across devices.
• Collaborate with partners to align technical solutions with business goals.
• Integrate with backend services (REST, WebRTC) with offline-first capabilities.
• Support diverse hardware—from smartphones to headless devices.
• Stay current with Android platform changes and tooling.
• Oversee CI/CD pipelines and release processes.
