Job summary

Home Trust Company is seeking a Senior Analyst, Commercial Lending to assess, evaluate and analyze investment proposals for a wide range of commercial mortgage transactions. You will prepare recommendations and collaborate with underwriting to ensure timely funding.

Reporting to the Director, Commercial Real Estate, you will manage the Large Commercial pipeline, produce reporting for senior management, and help ensure risk, compliance and profitability targets are met in a fast-paced,

Qualifications

  • University degree in business, economics, or related discipline.
  • MBA or CFA or similar accreditation considered assets.
  • 3-5 years in commercial mortgage lending / underwriting.
  • Background in alternative lending is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of commercial real estate and mortgages.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proven ability to work within a collaborative team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Understands Home Trust Company's lending criteria and risk appetite.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and provide written recommendations on investment proposals (Term Sheet format).
  • Collect and review due diligence items and present proposals on time.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting to ensure service quality and timely funding.
  • Maintain objective risk assessments in a high-volume, service-oriented environment.
  • Support business objectives including volume, spread and profitability targets.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and competition.
  • Manage Large Commercial pipeline and ensure timely loan approvals.
  • Deliver accurate reporting on portfolio, pipeline and market trends to senior management.
  • Coordinate with ERM, Finance, Treasury and Compliance for commercial items.
  • Assist in special projects as needed.

About the role:


The Senior Analyst, Commercial Lending is responsible for assessing, evaluating, and analyzing investment proposals to prepare recommendations on a wide variety of commercial mortgage transactions.

Key Responsibilities:


Transaction Analysis, Review and Approvals (65%)

  • Assist the Director to analyze and provide written recommendations in Term Sheet format (decision ready) on investment proposals requiring approval in accordance with HTC’s Policy and Guidelines and general investment criteria.
  • Assist in the collection and review of necessary due diligence items and the presentation of investment proposals within required timelines.
  • Collaborate with the Underwriting team to ensure service quality and timely funding is achieved to client expectations.
  • Maintain and evaluate consistent, objective and sound risk assessments in a high volume, quality focused and service-oriented environment.
  • Assist the Director, Commercial Lending in achieving all business objectives including new business volume, spread, and profitability targets for Large Commercial.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of the industry, competition and market trends.

Pipeline and Reporting (20%)

  • Assist the Director to manage the development and maintenance of the Large Commercial pipeline to facilitate workflow and to ensure timely execution of loan approvals.
  • Assist in the delivery of accurate and substantive reporting to the EVP, Commercial Lending on the commercial mortgage portfolio, pipeline, market trends, competition and cost of funds and provide ad-hoc reporting to senior management, as required.
  • Assist in the management of CMHC / CMB allocation targets and limits with a goal to maximize capacity usage and revenues.
  • Coordinate with internal business groups including ERM, Finance, Treasury, Compliance and Securitization to assist in facilitating Commercial related items in the organization.

Risk and Compliance (10%)

  • Evaluate and analyze documentation supplied by clients and brokers to ensure its authenticity and compliance with all aspects of Home Trust Company’s policies and guidelines per delegated authority matrices and applicable compliance obligations including Commercial Underwriting Policies and Commercial Lending Guidelines, Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering / Anti-Terrorist Financing, and internal Anti-Fraud Policy requirements.
  • File Unusual Transaction Reports as applicable to fulfil individual employee obligations to detect and deter financial crimes activity.
  • Maintain clean OSFI and Internal Audit reports as required for Commercial Originations.

Projects (5%)

  • Assist in special projects or other new initiatives as needed.

  • Additional relevant accreditation(s)/ certification(s) or their pursuit are considered assets (e.g. MBA, CFA)
  • 3-5 years in commercial mortgage lending / underwriting
  • Background in alternative lending an asset
  • In depth understanding of commercial real estate and mortgages
  • Able to multi-task and flourish in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment
  • Proven ability to work within a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent written / verbal communication and professional maturity

What you can expect - pay & process:

  • Expected base salary range is $70,000 - $85,000 per year, plus the opportunity to earn an annual incentive bonus tied to performance.
