Job summary

West Neighbourhood House is seeking two Part Time Senior After School Program Workers to support safe, engaging activities for children ages 6 to 12. You will assist the Lead Worker in planning, delivering, and supervising inclusive programming after school hours.

You will foster positive relationships with children and families, support wellbeing, and help create a welcoming environment within the Community Program and Social Change unit.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to model positive social skills and resolve conflicts effectively.
• Experience in arts, sports, crafts, games, outdoor/environmental activities, music, or theatre with school-aged children.
• Experience working with students and/or volunteers is an asset.
• Demonstrated understanding of teamwork and cooperation.
• Experience with school-aged children is an asset.
• Familiarity with the local community is an asset.
• Familiarity with HIGH FIVE Principles/Certification is an asset; training will be provided.
• Up to date First Aid/CPR Certification is an asset; training will be provided.

West Neighbourhood House, formerly St. Christopher House, is a multi-service, neighbourhood-based agency that has served the diverse communities of downtown west Toronto since 1912. The central purpose of West Neighbourhood House is to enable less-advantaged individuals, families and groups in the community to gain greater control over their lives and community.As a valued member of the Children, Youth and Family Services team, the Senior After School Program Worker supports the delivery of safe, inclusive, and engaging after-school programs for children ages 6 to 12. • Support the Lead After School Program Worker in planning and delivering a variety activities, including sports (e.g., soccer, dodgeball), crafts, games, and homework or quiet time that are developmentally appropriate and engaging for children ages 6 to 12;
• Build positive and respectful relationships with children, families, volunteers, and community members, contributing to an inclusive and welcoming program environment;
• Actively engage participants to promote healthy social, emotional, and physical development through play-based and recreational programming;
• Support the safety and well-being of all participants by maintaining appropriate supervision and proactively identifying and addressing potential risks;
• Respond promptly and effectively to incidents, concerns, emergencies, and parent inquiries. Ensure accurate reporting and documentation in accordance with organizational policies and procedures, with a strong commitment to safety and transparency;
• Foster positive interactions among children, peers, and adults, creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment that reflects the organization's mission, vision, and values;
• Work collaboratively with the Lead After School Program Worker and broader Children, Youth and Family Services team to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality programming.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated ability to model positive social skills and resolve conflicts effectively in diverse settings;
• Experience in at least one of the following areas: arts, sports, crafts, games, outdoor/environmental activities, music, or theatre, with the ability to share this knowledge and creativity with school-aged children;
• Experience working with students and/or volunteers would is an asset;
• Demonstrated understanding of teamwork and cooperation;
• Previous experience working with school-aged children would is an asset;
• Familiarity with the local community would be an asset.
• Familiarity with HIGH FIVEPrinciples/Certification is an asset; training will be provided;

Status: Part Time Contract (possible full days March Break and P.A. Days, as required

Rate: $18.80 per hour
