Job summary

A community service organization in Toronto is seeking a Child Program Worker to lead after-school activities for children aged 4–12. Employment Type: Casual, Full-time, Bargaining Unit (2 Vacancies)

Work Hours: Fluctuating between 5-25 hours/week (M-F 2pm – 7pm)

Work Setting: Exclusively Onsite (251 Cosburn Avenue, Toronto, ON)

Salary: D - $20.25 per hour

Program Overview – Neighbourhood Programs, Homeward Bound unit

Homeward Bound is an employment wrap‑around program that assists female‑led families who are living in unstable conditions to make a successful transition to sustainable employment, permanent housing, and independent living for themselves and their children. The program includes career development and life skills, academic upgrading, computer training, a college diploma program, an internship component and access to sustainable employment opportunities. Homeward Bound also offers on‑site childcare, family support, and an after‑4 program for school‑aged children.

What You Will Do
  • Plan and lead after‑school activities that encourage learning, creativity, and life skills for children aged 4–12.
  • Offer spontaneous, age‑appropriate activities that spark joy and curiosity.
  • Safely escort children from local schools to the program site.
  • Prepare and serve healthy snacks that meet diverse dietary needs.
  • Supervise children during on‑site programs and off‑site trips, ensuring safety and inclusion throughout March break, PA Days, and summer break.
  • Follow all relevant legislation, organizational policies, and best practices to maintain a respectful and secure environment.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Post‑secondary education program (completed or currently enrolled).
  • Flexibility to work additional hours during school breaks and holidays, including March Break and Summer Camp.
  • Knowledge of child development and the unique learning needs of children aged 4–12.
  • Empathy and respect when working with children and families who may have experienced systemic barriers, including homelessness or violence.
  • Understanding of community development and child‑centred approaches that celebrate diversity and inclusion.
