Job summary

WoodGreen Community Services in Toronto is seeking a casual Child Program Worker for the Homeward Bound program. The role focuses on creating a safe, engaging environment for children aged 4–12, with activities that support learning and development.

You will accompany children from schools to the program site, supervise daily routines, and help with healthy snacks. This position is onsite, 25 hours/week, with shifts 2pm–7pm.

  • Ability to support children and families facing barriers with empathy.

  • Safely escort children from local schools to the program site.
  • Prepare and serve healthy snacks meeting diverse dietary needs.
  • Supervise on-site programs and off-site trips, ensuring safety and inclusion.
  • Follow policies and practices to maintain a respectful, secure environment.

Program Overview – Neighbourhood Programs, Homeward Bound unit

Homeward Bound is an employment wrap around program that assists female-led families who are living in unstable conditions make a successful transition to sustainable employment, permanent housing and independent living for themselves and their children. The program includes many components including, career development and life skills, academic upgrading and computer training, and a college diploma program. There is also an internship component and access to sustainable employment opportunities. Homeward Bound also offers on-site childcare, family support, and an after-4 program for school aged children.

As a Child Program Worker, you’ll create a safe, welcoming environment where children can learn, play, and thrive. You’ll plan and deliver engaging activities, support educational and life skills development, and ensure children’s well-being during daily routines and special events. Your work will directly contribute to helping families overcome challenges and achieve lasting stability.

What You Will Do
  • Planning and leading after-school activities that encourage learning, creativity, and life skills.
  • Offering spontaneous, age-appropriate activities that spark joy and curiosity.
  • Safely escorting children from local schools to our program site.
  • Preparing and serving healthy snacks that meet diverse dietary needs.
  • Supervising children during on-site programs and off-site trips, ensuring safety and inclusion for all ( (March break, PA Days, Summer break).
  • Following all relevant legislation, organizational policies, and best practices to maintain a respectful and secure environment.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Post-secondary education program (completed or currently enrolled).
  • Flexibility to work additional hours during school breaks and holidays, including March Break and Summer Camp.
  • Knowledge of child development and the unique learning needs of children aged 4–12.
  • Ability to work with children and families who may have experienced systemic barriers, including homelessness or violence, with empathy and respect.
  • Understanding of community development and child-centered approaches that celebrate diversity and inclusion.
