Job summary

Aviva Canada is seeking a motivated actuarial professional to join the Commercial Pricing team, focusing on profitability and growth of our property and casualty portfolio. You will apply advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and data-driven insights to support pricing decisions across diverse commercial products.

You will collaborate with stakeholders, maintain SAS-based pricing processes, mentor junior analysts, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of pricing and portfolio strategies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline (equivalent experience considered).
  • Minimum 3 years of Property and Casualty actuarial experience, preferably in pricing.
  • Completion of at least 3 SOA or CAS exams, with continued progress toward designation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in programming and data analysis; SAS required; VBA, Python, R are assets.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with stakeholders across Head Office and field; develop tailored analytical solutions.
  • Maintain and enhance SAS-based pricing processes and tools; drive automation opportunities.
  • Coach and mentor junior analysts and co-op students.
  • Pricing and Portfolio Management: lead and support rate reviews across commercial products and market segments; communicate insights for alignment.
  • Predictive Analytics and Model Development: collaborate with Data Science teams to develop and validate models for pricing accuracy.
  • Small Business Pricing: support growth and profitability of Aviva's Small Business portfolio.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented and motivated actuarial professional to join our dynamic, high-performing Commercial Pricing team. The Commercial Pricing team plays a critical role in driving the profitability and growth of Aviva’s commercial insurance portfolio. Through advanced actuarial analysis, predictive modeling, and data‑driven insights, we support strategic pricing decisions across a diverse range of Property and Casualty products. Our work directly influences business performance and helps shape the future of commercial insurance at Aviva.

What you’ll do:
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across Head Office and the field; understand stakeholder needs and develop tailored analytical solutions that maximize business value.
  • Maintain and enhance SAS‑based pricing processes and tools; drive process improvements and automation opportunities to improve efficiency and analytical capability.
  • Coach and mentor junior analysts and co‑op students; contribute actively to Aviva’s actuarial community.
  • Pricing and Portfolio Management: lead and support rate reviews across a variety of commercial products, coverages, and market segments; develop clear, data‑driven pricing recommendations and effectively communicate insights to stakeholders to gain alignment for proposed actions.
  • Predictive Analytics and Model Development: collaborate with Data Science teams to develop, enhance, and validate predictive models that improve pricing accuracy and effectiveness; balance technical rigor with business objectives to ensure practical, high‑impact solutions; translate complex analytical concepts into clear business insights for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Small Business Pricing: support the growth and profitability of Aviva's Small Business portfolio, including pricing initiatives within Ally; identify opportunities to improve pricing sophistication and portfolio performance.
What you’ll bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline (equivalent experience will also be considered).
  • Minimum 3 years of Property and Casualty actuarial experience, preferably in pricing.
