Senior Manager, Project Accounting

On behalf of our client, we are seeking a senior-level Development Accounting Manager to join their Accounting and Finance team, reporting to the VP, Finance. This candidate will play a key role within the Finance team, working with development and portfolio management.

This individual will possess the ability to effectively manage a high volume of information, bring a solutions-focused mindset, communicate ideas clearly, and drive execution through the company’s growth. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated team player with the ability to operate in a lean but growing team. The ideal candidate will have experience in development accounting, along with a strong understanding of fund accounting and corporate reporting. In addition, the individual will be able to work in a dynamic environment and across multiple teams and must have a 'no task is too big or too small' mindset, with definite room for growth and opportunity as the company grows, and will ensure improvement in systems and procedures.

The base salary is up to $135,000, accompanied by benefits and a significant bonus. Our client is an advocate for equity and diversity, recognizing the importance of leadership engagement within its framework.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger and annual working paper files for the Development portfolio, including posting year-end journal entries and preparing financial statements.
• Analyze project financial data to prepare detailed cost analyses, identifying financial risks and budget discrepancies for management review.
• Prepare quarterly financial reports and monthly project reports required by lenders, portfolio managers, internal teams, and Executive decision makers.
• Oversee project rollups into fund level and corporate level reporting, working alongside internal teams.
• Monitor project budgets, costs incurred, anticipated final costs, and committed costs using project management and accounting systems.
• Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile control accounts (accounts receivable and accounts payable) to subsidiary ledgers and intercompany balances.
• Manage project accounting tasks, including analyzing transactions, integrating unforeseen costs into budgets, and forecasting cash flow.
• Ensure accuracy in preparing Statements of Adjustments (SOAs) and verify alignment with records at closing, ensuring consistency between received closing funds and sales records.
• Review purchase orders and accounts payable listings, prepare accounts payable journals, and manage invoice processing as needed.
• Ensure compliance with contractual agreements regarding holdbacks and their release.
• Oversee bank loans and renewals of Business Accounts (BA).
• Perform additional duties and projects as assigned. jobs), budgets, job costs, cost codes, contracts, change orders, purchase orders, and construction progress reports.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years’ experience in real estate audit, development, fund and/or corporate accounting.
• CPA Designation required
• Thorough knowledge of development and construction costs and related financial procedures.
• Experience in a fast-paced team with a complex service delivery environment.
• Proficient in accounting software, and advanced working knowledge of MS Excel and Word is required.
• Experience and knowledge of all aspects of year-end working papers preparation.
• Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to problem solve effectively and adept at presenting complex information clearly and concisely.
• A strong self-starter who has superior communication skills, both written and verbal with a successful track record in working with stakeholders of multiple disciplines.
• High level of confidentiality and professionalism.
