Job summary

The City of Medicine Hat invites applications for a Senior Accounting Assistant (Temporary up to 24 months) on-site, starting at 37.61 CAD/hour. You will support the Finance Department with month-end close, grants, budgets, and ERP system tasks within a collaborative public-service environment.

Requires a diploma in Business Administration with an accounting major and a minimum of four years of accounting experience.

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and PSAB accounting principles.
• Strong understanding of transaction and processing controls and financial system data flows.
• Excellent arithmetic and numerical accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Perform month-end close and year-end close support.
• Maintain ERP accounts, cost centers, projects, work orders, allocations, and fixed assets.
• Process grants (e.g., CCBF/LGFF) and government reporting.
• Support budget amendments in Unit4 using Excelerator.
• Prepare budget reports and assist with administrative tasks.
• Conduct internal control audits and reconcile journals.
• Provide backup for bank desk and implement Unit4 health check recommendations.
