Job summary

David Aplin Recruiting is seeking a Senior Accountant to join a public accounting firm in Vancouver. The role focuses on audit of public company clients, with opportunities to mentor junior staff and deepen technical assurance skills.

The ideal candidate holds CPA designation with 2–4 years of public accounting experience and is proficient in IFRS and CAS. Expect engagement leadership, client interaction, and collaboration with Partners to deliver through planning to completion.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation required.
  • Approximately 2–4 years of relevant public accounting experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of public company audit experience.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Auditing Standards and public company assurance requirements.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and audit working papers.
  • Ability to lead or take significant ownership of audit engagements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a client-service environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review audit, review, and tax engagements.
  • Work primarily with public company and reporting issuer clients.
  • Support engagements from planning through completion.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and related note disclosures.
  • Apply knowledge of IFRS and Canadian Auditing Standards.
  • Perform substantive testing across revenue, expenses, assets, liabilities and taxes.
  • Review supporting documentation and assess audit evidence sufficiency.
  • Identify audit issues, misstatements, and areas requiring investigation.
  • Prepare corporate tax returns and other tax filings as required.
  • Communicate with clients to obtain information and resolve issues.
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members.
  • Coordinate with Managers and Partners on planning, risk areas, materiality, and deadlines.
  • Build client relationships and contribute to practice growth.

Job description

Our client, a well-established public accounting firm in Vancouver, is looking to add aSenior Accountant, Audit to its Public Company Assurance team.

This opportunity is well suited to a designated CPA with public company audit experience who wants to continue developing their technical assurance skills while taking on increased responsibility across engagements, client relationships, and junior staff mentorship.

The Role
  • Prepare and review audit, review, and tax engagements
  • Work primarily with public company and reporting issuer clients
  • Support engagements from planning through completion
  • Prepare and review financial statements and related note disclosures
  • Apply knowledge of IFRS and Canadian Auditing Standards
  • Perform substantive testing across revenue, expenses, capital assets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, equity, and income taxes
  • Review supporting documentation and assess the sufficiency of audit evidence
  • Identify audit issues, misstatements, and areas requiring further investigation
  • Prepare corporate tax returns and other tax compliance filings as required
  • Communicate directly with clients to obtain information and resolve engagement issues
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members
  • Work closely with Managers and Partners on engagement planning, risk areas, materiality, and deadlines
  • Build strong client relationships and contribute to the broader growth of the practice
What You Bring
  • CPA designation
  • Approximately 2-4 years of relevant public accounting experience
  • Minimum 2 years of public company audit experience
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS
  • Familiarity with Canadian Auditing Standards and public company assurance requirements
  • Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and audit working papers
