• Identify financial reporting risks and recommend solutions.
• Provide accounting guidance on intangible assets capitalization and ongoing accounting.
• Coach and support financial analysts and cross-functional partners.

Job description

Our client, a large Canadian retailer, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team on a 4-month contract assignment.

This is a hybrid position, with 4 days per week onsite and 1 day remotely at the client’s offices in Toronto.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the accounting team with financial reporting, reconciliations, month-end activities, and other accounting functions as required.

• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in compliance with IFRS.
• Analyze significant variances, business trends, and key performance indicators and communicate findings to management.
• Support the month-end and quarter-end close processes, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting analysis.
• Identify financial reporting risks and proactively recommend solutions.
• Provide expert accounting guidance related to the capitalization and ongoing accounting for internally developed and acquired intangible assets.
• Provide coaching, guidance, and technical support to financial analysts and cross-functional partners.
• Build strong relationships across the organization and foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.

Requirements

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• CPA designation (or equivalent professional accounting qualification) is required.
• Minimum 4+ years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting or a large, complex corporate environment.
Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting requirements.
• Proven ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate effectively across multiple functions.
