Job summary

Vaco Recruiter Services is seeking a Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting for a 15-month opportunity in Calgary, Alberta. The role covers month-end close, financial reporting, and collaboration with FP&A on budgeting and forecasting.

You will liaise with audit teams and ensure regulatory filings are completed on time, while supporting process improvements and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Strong Excel proficiency and experience in financial reporting.
• Experience with month-end close processes and internal controls.
• CPA designation or equivalent international accounting designation required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial results and management reporting packages.
• Analyze transactions, settlements and variances; resolve discrepancies as needed.

About Our Client

Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting for a 15-month opportunity.

About the Opportunity

• Complete the full month-end accounting cycle, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results and management reporting packages.
• Analyze transaction activity, settlements, and financial variances, identifying and resolving discrepancies as required.
• Provide financial analysis, reporting, and ad hoc support to business stakeholders.
• Liaise with the internal and external audit teams to ensure timely and accurate audits
• Maintain audit-ready working papers and support internal and external audit processes.
• Interpret and apply accounting standards, corporate policies, and internal controls to business transactions.
• Collaborate with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Prepare regulatory and government filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established deadlines.
• Support process improvements, special projects, and other duties consistent with the scope of the role.

About You

• 5+ years of experience in accounting with at least 2 years in industry
• Strong experience in financial reporting, month end close, internal controls, accruals
• CPA designation or other internationally recognized professional accounting designation is required
• Strong proficiency in excel
• Experience with Oracle is considered an asset but not required
• Industry experience in the energy retail sector is an asset but not required

You must currently reside within the Calgary area and be permitted to work in Canada to be considered for this opportunity.
