Job summary

Warner Music Group in Toronto, Ontario is hiring a Senior Accountant to lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close cycles with US GAAP reporting. You will prepare journals, reconciliations, and perform variance analyses for management.

Key duties include intercompany reconciliations, revenue reconciliations, tax compliance for GST/HST and other taxes, and coordinating internal/external audits. The role requires 3–5 years of accounting experience and CPA progression.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation or in progress preferred.
  • 3-5 years progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE, IFRS and/or US GAAP.
  • Proficient in Excel; SAP S/4HANA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close cycles.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals and reconciliations.
  • Perform balance sheet and P&L variance analyses with commentary.
  • Manage intercompany transactions reconciliations monthly.
  • Perform revenue reconciliations across digital and physical sales.
  • Prepare, file and reconcile Canadian sales tax returns.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits and document requests.
  • Prepare monthly P&L statements and reporting packs for executives.
  • Ad-hoc GL analysis and custom financial reporting.
  • Track artist-related expenses and reporting support to teams.
  • Support Order-to-Cash with daily cash application details.
  • Review sync licensing deals and royalty structures.

Your role:
  • Month-End & Financial Close Processes: Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close cycles, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, monthly accruals, and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Conduct detailed balance sheet and P&L variance analyses, providing actionable commentary to management.
  • Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions monthly.
  • Perform revenue reconciliations across digital revenue streams and physical sales.
  • Tax & Compliance: Prepare, file, and reconcile Canadian sales tax returns (GST/HST, QST, PST/BCST) accurately and within statutory deadlines.
  • Audit & Internal Controls: Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audit engagements, coordinating documentation requests and audit inquiries.
  • Financial Reporting & Commercial Analysis: Prepare monthly P&L statements and financial reporting packages for label executives, corporate leadership, and global affiliates.
  • Perform ad-hoc general ledger analysis and custom financial reporting upon management request.
  • Track, analyze, and manage artist-related expenses, including recording costs, tour support, and marketing spend.
  • Provide daily cash application details and operational support to Order-to-Cash team.
  • Commercial Deals & Contract Review: Assist finance leadership in reviewing and analyzing sync licensing deals, joint venture agreements, and royalty structures.
  • Systems & Process Improvement: Identify opportunities within the accounting cycle to streamline workflows, enhance internal controls, and shorten close timelines.
  • Participate in global strategic tech initiatives, including AI integration, process automation (RPA), and Business Intelligence (BI) reporting tools.
  • Ad-Hoc Support: Provide dedicated financial support to local and global cross-functional teams (e.g., investigating spend variances, invoice tracking, GL account coding guidance).
About you:
  • CPA designation or in progress, preferred.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles (ASPE, IFRS, and/or US GAAP).
  • Proficient in Excel and accounting software (SAP S/4HANA preferred).
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication abilities.
