Our client, a privately held Canadian industrial organization, seeks an Accounting Manager to lead the accounting function and drive financial strategy. The role offers hybrid work, a strong benefits package, and growth opportunities as the business expands.

You will oversee ledgers, prepare financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and tax filings while mentoring a high-performing team and partnering with operational leaders.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation required.
  • 5+ years progressive accounting experience including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience with budgets, forecasts, audits and tax filings is essential.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with financial reporting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the general accounting function for the Environmental Group and maintain ledgers, reconciliations and fixed asset registers.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements with analysis for senior management.
  • Coordinate annual budgets and forecasts with business units and finance partners.
  • Prepare tax filings and support corporate tax reporting activities.
  • Deliver ad hoc reports and analyses for decision making and audit support.
  • Lead and develop the accounting team, promoting process improvements and controls.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the general accounting function for the Environmental Group, ensuring accurate and timely maintenance of the general ledger, reconciliations, subledgers, and fixed asset registers.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, providing insightful analysis and recommendations to business leaders and senior management.
  • Coordinate and prepare annual budgets and forecasts, partnering with business units to understand financial drivers, risks, and opportunities.
  • Prepare and file applicable government and sales tax filings, while supporting corporate tax reporting as required.
  • Develop and deliver ad hoc financial reports and analysis to support management decision-making and respond to business and Finance department requests.
  • Prepare audit working papers, respond to auditor inquiries, and provide accurate and timely information to support an efficient audit process.
  • Attend operating, financial review, and management meetings, providing financial guidance, insight, and support to operational and senior leadership teams.
  • Implement, monitor, and document effective financial controls, processes, and systems to safeguard the integrity of the general ledger and financial reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, controls, and workflows, driving greater efficiency, accuracy, and consistency across the business.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
Qualifications
  • College diploma or university degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline
  • CPA designation (CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA) required
  • At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles and financial reporting standards
  • Experience preparing financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, budgets, forecasts, and audit working papers
  • Corporate tax experience an asset
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial reporting systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build credibility at all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to coach and mentor
