Position Type:Casual

Hourly Rate: $15.50

Shift and Hours: Evening and Weekend shifts, hours vary, based on operational need; must be available to work at least two shifts per week.

Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.

Job Overview:

Reporting to the Restaurant Assistant Manager, Servers and Bartenders at Heritage Park’s Selkirk Restaurant, will provide exceptional customer service, manage bar operations, and collaborate with the front‑of‑house and kitchen teams. This role requires ensuring smooth service, maintaining high service quality, and adhering to safety and legal standards.

Bar Operations
  • Conduct regular inventory checks, reconcile discrepancies, and communicate restocking needs with the Manager.
  • Maintain a clean and organized bar and service area, ensuring glassware cleanliness.
  • Operate the POS system for order processing and handle transactions with accuracy.
  • Safeguard and manage the sales “float,” ensuring accountability and security of funds.
  • Report daily sales and prepare funds for deposit with the administrative cashier.
  • Assist with private function setups and bar service within Gasoline Alley and the Founder’s Lounge.
  • Adhere to A.G.L.C. laws and Heritage Park’s beverage service policies.
Customer Service
  • Wait on tables in assigned sections, ensuring timely and attentive service.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the menu and make recommendations to enhance the dining experience.
  • Collaborate with kitchen and front‑of‑house teams for efficient service.
  • Tabulate and present accurate bills, handling transactions and providing change as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of Heritage Park’s services and provide relevant historical information to guests.
Team Collaboration & Visitor Experience
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere and provide friendly, courteous service to enhance the guest experience.
  • Assist with emergency evacuation procedures to ensure guest safety.
Organizational Excellence and Wellbeing
  • Contribute to inspiring and immersive experiences at the Park through your roles and responsibilities by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with the overall mission and vision of the Park
  • Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Park's Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS), following safe work practices, reporting work‑related incidents, injuries and hazards, participating in employer training, and adhering policies including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence and Harassment policy
  • Actively support a positive work environment through creating an atmosphere of inclusion, engagement and fulfillment in line with Heritage Park values
  • Demonstrate responsible stewardship of our people, collections and financial assets by ensuring that they are handled with integrity, sustainability, and a focus on long‑term benefits for the organization and its stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in a restaurant or hospitality environment is required; experience in a fast‑paced, high‑volume restaurant is preferred
  • Technical training in a recognized bartending course considered an asset
  • Possession of ProServe certification is required
  • Proficiency in preparing a wide range of cocktails, including classic and contemporary recipes
  • Familiarity with local alcohol regulations, including age restrictions, serving hours, and responsible alcohol service practices, is necessary to ensure compliance and safety
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Attention to detail to accurately take orders and fulfil guest requests
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in a client‑faced setting
  • All successful candidates (over the age of 18) will be required to complete a Police Information Check as a condition of employment. Special Clothing and Equipment:
  • This position requires a uniform consisting of black pants, a black shirt/Selkirk branded black shirt, and black shoes.
  • A professional and well‑groomed appearance is required at all times. Team members represent the venue and should reflect its standards of excellence and hospitality.
    • Hair longer than the ears must be tied neatly behind the head.
    • Facial hair must be neatly trimmed and maintained, or clean‑shaven.
    • Minimal, natural‑looking makeup is preferred.
    • Attire must be clean, pressed, and properly fitted at all times.
    • Shoes must be clean, and appropriate for the role (non‑slip, closed‑toe).
Special Working Conditions:
  • The position will be exposed to weather extremes and will work both indoors and outdoors; and
  • This position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must have the ability to lift heavy items, stand for long periods of time and walk throughout the Park for extended periods.
Hours of Work:
  • Hours vary based on operational need, up to 40 hours per week
  • Evening and weekend shifts are required
