Job summary

R. Denninger Limited is seeking a Department Head to manage the Self Serve department, driving sales and net operating profit while ensuring an exceptional shopping experience.

Reporting to the Store Manager, you will lead a team, implement merchandising strategies, monitor gross margins, and oversee labor costs and procedures. This role requires hands-on leadership in a dynamic retail environment across Southern Ontario.

Responsibilities

• Execute merchandising and promotional strategies to hit sales objectives.
• Implement department sales goals using internal tools and attend department head meetings.
• Analyze sales and gross margin reports to maximize department performance.
• Ensure quality control of all products.
• Place orders to optimize sales and gross margin.
• Ensure procedures for credits, rotations, invoicing, transfers and receiving are followed.
• Control labour costs by coordinating weekly schedules.
• Minimize utilities, supplies, samples, waste, donations, etc.
• Schedule regular preventative maintenance to control equipment costs.
• Enforce safety and store policies and legislation.
• Support company mission, vision and guiding principles.
• Enforce all company policies and procedures.
• Report accidents and WSIB incidents to Store Manager.
• Report maintenance repairs per procedures.
• Delegate departmental tasks to associates.
• Communicate staffing levels to Store Manager.
• Provide training and guidance to department members.
• Performance management with Store Manager.
• Attend department head meetings to review policies and goals.
• Maintain a harmonious, productive work environment.
• Respond to customer concerns promptly.
• Coordinate inter-department communication as shift manager.
• Ensure opening/mid/closing shift procedures are followed.
• All other duties as assigned by Management
