Job summary

Convergint in Calgary is seeking a Security Technician - Service to install, program, and start up security systems on small to medium projects or larger ones as needed. Under supervision, you will train customers and ensure systems operate correctly.

You will join a team supporting the Calgary Airports seven days a week, working four consecutive 10-hour days with three days off, and on-call duty. We value integrity, growth, and a culture of inclusion.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Responds to all service calls, maintenance, and emergency and after-hours calls; diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and debug complex systems.
• Identify and resolve problems for service calls; provide solutions and complete repairs as needed.
• Prepare accurate service reports for invoicing and cost tracking.
• Provide technical support to end users and field staff; transfer knowledge to others.
• Act as mentor for less experienced staff and supervise testing and tuning of equipment.
• Maintain focus on being the customer’s best service provider at all times.

Convergint is currently recruiting for a Security Technician - Service to join our growing team. As a Junior Security Technician, and under direct supervision, you will be responsible for installing, programming, system start-up/check-out, certification, and related customer training on assigned Security projects which are typically small to medium projects that are often less complex. The position may also work on larger projects with greater complexity as needed and able.

The position is part of a team that supports the Calgary Airports 7 days a week, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The candidate will work 4 consecutive 10-hour days, followed by 3 consecutive days off. On-call will be required.

What you’ll do with "Our Training and Your Experience"

• Responds to all types of customer service calls, scheduled maintenance calls, and emergency and after-hours calls on a timely basis; will diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and debug a substantial variety of systems for complex problems. Uses advanced troubleshooting skills to isolate and fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software. Commissions projects as necessary.
• Identifies and resolves problems for all types of service calls including emergency calls; analyzes repair requirements and provides customer with appropriate solutions; completes necessary repairs and replacements as needed; exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results. May require originality and ingenuity in some situations.
• Completes accurate and detailed service reports for customer and Convergint to allow for accurate invoicing and job cost tracking.
• Provides technical support to end users and field labour when applicable. Transfers knowledge and expertise to other technicians.
• Using technical knowledge, skills and experience, acts as mentor for less experienced staff. May supervise workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.
• May provide guidance to workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.
• Acts as "our customer's best service provider" at all times thereby ensuring Convergint Technologies is the customer's first choice for service.

What You’ll Need

• Developing exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure; ability to maintain awareness of and seek to meet the needs and wants of the customer without being prompted.
• Developing technical skills and experience related to electronic security systems
• Ability to develop basic programming skills and proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions
• Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g. works with a variety of hand and power tools such as drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper) and ability to read blueprints and drawings; solid math skills (for some positions, this may include calculating area, velocity, resistance, voltage, etc.)
• Frequent visits to jobsites are required. Minimal overnight travel is required. Valid driver's license required.
• Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Basic organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Good computer skills including exposure to MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Requirements

• Minimum of one year of previous, relevant field experience preferred.
• Experience in the electronic and security industry preferred.
