Job summary

Synectics Inc. is seeking a Senior Field Technician to install, service, and troubleshoot door operators, maglocks, and alarm systems on residential and commercial sites in the GTA. You will work independently in the field, diagnose complex issues, and coordinate with electricians and fire alarm contractors.

Knowledge of OBC and life-safety requirements is essential. You will run cabling, install raceways, and maintain professional installation standards while documenting work and outcomes for

Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience with door operators, maglocks, electronic locking systems, and alarm systems.
  • Ability to independently diagnose and resolve field issues.
  • Experience working on active residential and commercial sites.
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and AODA accessibility requirements.
  • Understanding of egress and life-safety requirements for electrically locked doors.
  • Knowledge of fail-safe and fail-secure locking applications.
  • Familiarity with maglock release requirements, REX devices, and push-to-exit buttons.
  • Familiarity with applicable ULC standards, including ULC-S561.
  • Understanding of monitored alarm system requirements and verification procedures.
  • Experience with low-voltage cabling, conduit, and field installations.
  • Basic understanding of door hardware and mechanical functions.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Role

We are seeking a hands-on, technically skilled Senior Field Technician specializing in low-voltage security systems and door integration. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently in the field, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and maintaining a high standard of professionalism with customers, property managers, and team members.

Key Responsibilities
Door Operators, Maglocks & Electronic Locking - Primary Focus
  • Install, service, and troubleshoot automatic door operators, maglocks, electric strikes, and exit devices.
  • Integrate door systems with alarm and access control systems.
  • Diagnose issues involving door automation, locking hardware, and low-voltage controls.
  • Perform minor mechanical adjustments, including lock alignment, door adjustments, and hardware tuning.
Alarm Systems
  • Install, program, service, and troubleshoot intrusion and fire alarm monitoring systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve communication faults and device issues.
  • Perform system testing, commissioning, and customer demonstrations.
  • Ensure systems are fully operational and ready for monitoring.
Maglock & Life Safety Integration
  • Install and troubleshoot maglock systems and associated release devices.
  • Integrate electrically locked doors with fire alarm and emergency egress systems.
  • Coordinate with electricians, fire alarm contractors, and other trades when required.
  • Participate in inspections with municipalities, engineers, and fire alarm technicians.
  • Verify proper door release during fire alarm activation and power loss.
Cabling & Installation
  • Run, terminate, and test low-voltage cabling.
  • Install EMT conduit and other raceway systems where required.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional installation standards.
  • Properly label, secure, and route cables.
Documentation & Service Reporting
  • Complete service reports, deficiency reports, and installation documentation.
  • Record completed work, parts used, and required follow-up.
  • Assist with project closeout documentation and final testing records.

Nice-to-Have Experience
Access Control
  • Experience with card readers, controllers, I/O modules, REX devices, and door contacts.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Keyscan, ICT Protege, CDVI, Cansec, or Kantech.
CCTV & Video Surveillance
  • Experience installing and servicing IP or analog camera systems.
  • Familiarity with NVRs, DVRs, remote viewing, recording configurations, and video playback.
Networking
  • Basic understanding of IP addressing, switches, routers, and PoE.
  • Ability to connect and troubleshoot security devices on customer networks.
  • Experience with structured cabling and patch panels.
