Job description

The Security Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing a team of 20+ security professionals under a commercial contract in Edmonton. This position requires a high-energy individual who can multitask and effectively lead and manage a team of security professionals. The successful applicant must lead by example and set a high standard of service for both customers and clients.

Job Duties

  1. Perform patrols as needed.
  2. Delegate access and service requests to staff, and conduct them personally if needed.
  3. Respond to first aid or other incidents.
  4. Serve as Incident Commander during significant incidents unless relieved by higher authority.
  5. Review reports with shift supervisors and escalate significant issues to the client.
  6. Ensure SOPs are followed during incident response; coach or train staff as needed.
  7. Maintain visibility and availability to provide top-quality customer service to all members of the site.
  8. Train and mentor officers on site duties, protocols, conduct, reporting procedures, and company policies.
  9. Investigate thefts, harassment, assaults, or other incidents in coordination with internal security management.
  10. Coordinate with the head office scheduler to review schedules and assist as needed.
  11. Collaborate with the head office recruiter on staffing needs, participate in second interviews, and train new hires.
  12. Review service levels, recognize or award officers, and address coaching, training, or disciplinary needs.
  13. Audit first aid and emergency equipment with supervisors.
  14. Audit the functionality of access control, CCTV, and intrusion alarm systems with supervisors.
  15. Review staffing needs and overtime requirements.
  16. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by internal security management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, College Diploma, or relevant certificate (asset).
  • Experience in a refinery or related industrial environment (asset).
  • Minimum of 3+ years of security experience in a Site Supervisor or Manager role.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the security industry.
  • Valid Security Worker License required.
  • OFA II or III certification.
  • Strong communication skills, assertiveness, sensitivity, and teamwork are critical.
  • Positive, professional, and enthusiastic attitude when dealing with clients and personnel.
  • Attributes such as supervision, decision-making, organization, problem-solving, analytical skills, and interpersonal sensitivity are required.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills are necessary.
