Job Description:

Purpose summary:

The Salvation Army's Southview Heights and Terrace is a Senior Residence located in South Vancouver.

This person would be doing checks during the night for both buildings, be able to perform janitorial duties, and provide emergency response as required.

Key Responsibilities:

Security:

• Conduct security rounds inside Heights, Terrace and the core area, including the garage, every 2 to 3 hours. Change start of direction each time.
• Ensure all doors and windows are secure, including stairwells.
• Notify Operations and Business Manager of plumbing, electrical and heating emergencies and arrange for emergency repairs.
• Provide emergency response to residents according to procedure at the Terrace and assist Heights as required.
• Ensure the evacuation of residents in case of fire/earthquake according to procedure.
• Receive phone calls at the complex.

Janitorial:

• Read and sign the communication book daily.
• Sweep/mop dining room, kitchen floor and walk-in cooler. Carts & floor mats need to be put back in place.
• Remove garbage from core areas, kitchen, Heights and Terrace laundry rooms. Flatten boxes and empty recycling bins.
• Buff and wax floors using heavy equipment.
• Sanitize elevator buttons (inside and outside).
• Clean common area washrooms, remove garbage & restock if needed.
• Clean designated offices daily, remove garbage & empty recycling boxes.
• Vacuum heavy black chairs in the recreation room weekly; wipe with a damp cloth if needed.
• Sweep/mop wellness center, recreation room & photocopy room weekly. Clean countertops, sinks, empty shredder, and garbage.
• Sweep/ wash terrace garbage area in front of elevators daily.
• Clean kitchen ovens, stove tops & grills weekly; wash filters in dishwasher.
• Clean walls around potato peeler weekly on weekends.
• Clean/refill tea room coffee machine as needed.
• Shovel & salt entranceways when required.
• Accommodate additional work requests from the Support Services Supervisor.
• Log repair requests in the maintenance book.
• Notify when supplies are low.
• Follow cleaning schedules and complete checklists.
• Keep outside stairwells and drains clear of leaves and garbage.
• Maintain grounds and Gazebo free of debris and garbage.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

*Note: Validated educational documentation may be required for some roles.

Education/Certifications:

• High school diploma.
• Building Service Worker Certificate.
• WHMIS training/certificate.

Experience:

• Experience in janitorial or similar roles.
• Experience with seniors and/or individuals with cognitive and physical challenges preferred.

Pre-employment requirements:

• Background check consent.
• Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• TB Test.
• Clean driver's abstract.

Compensation:
