Job summary

Guardteck Security is actively seeking a Retail Security Associate to help protect store assets and customers in our Ontario locations. Duties include patrolling, deterring theft, monitoring CCTV, and promptly reporting incidents with clear documentation.

You will provide excellent customer service, enforce store policies professionally, and collaborate with management, law enforcement, and emergency responders as needed.

Qualifications

  • Valid First Aid & CPR certification or willingness to obtain before employment.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to stay calm and make decisions under pressure.
  • Professionalism when interacting with customers and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Basic computer/smartphone skills for reports and communication.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods (8–12 hour shifts).
  • Flexible availability including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols and maintain a visible security presence in-store.
  • Monitor for theft, vandalism, or disturbances and report incidents.
  • Observe and document suspicious activity per policies and laws.
  • Support management to keep customers and associates safe.
  • Respond to incidents promptly and assist during emergencies.
  • Assist with evacuations and incident investigations following protocols.
  • Use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations.
  • Complete daily activity logs and incident reports accurately.
  • Maintain CCTV monitoring and communicate security concerns to management.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and responders when required.

Responsibilities
Retail Security & Loss Prevention
  • Conduct regular foot patrols throughout the store, entrances, exits, parking lot, and surrounding property to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Maintain a highly visible security presence to deter theft, shoplifting, vandalism, and unauthorized activity.
  • Monitor high-risk areas, merchandise, and customer activity while identifying potential security concerns.
  • Observe, document, and report suspicious behavior in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Support store management in maintaining a safe shopping environment for customers and associates.
  • Respond promptly to security incidents, disturbances, medical emergencies, and customer or employee concerns.
  • Assess situations calmly and contact emergency services when required.
  • Provide First Aid, CPR, or AED assistance until emergency responders arrive (where applicable).
  • Assist with evacuations, emergency procedures, and incident investigations while following company protocols.
  • Use conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations safely and professionally.
Reporting & Documentation
  • Complete accurate daily activity logs, incident reports, and occurrence reports in a timely manner.
  • Document observations, theft-related incidents, safety concerns, and actions taken with professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Preserve evidence and communicate relevant information to supervisors and store management.
  • Participate in shift handovers to ensure continuity of operations.
Customer Service & Store Support
  • Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining a professional and approachable security presence.
  • Assist customers with general inquiries and provide directions when needed.
  • Support store associates and management by responding to security concerns and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Enforce store policies professionally while treating all customers and employees with respect.
  • Work collaboratively with store management, law enforcement, and emergency responders when required.
  • Monitor CCTV systems and report suspicious activity or security concerns.
  • Conduct routine inspections of entrances, exits, emergency exits, and high-risk areas.
  • Maintain accountability for company-issued equipment, radios, keys, and other security assets.
  • Report safety hazards, damaged equipment, and maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Follow all company policies, site procedures, and health and safety standards.
Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in retail security, loss prevention, customer service, hospitality, or a similar customer‑facing role is an asset.
  • Use of Force certificate.
  • Experience working in high-volume retail environments is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of theft prevention and conflict de-escalation techniques is an asset.
Physical & Working Conditions
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Comfortable working in a busy retail environment with continuous customer interaction.
  • Ability to patrol both indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and exterior areas.
  • Ability to respond quickly and professionally to emergencies and unexpected situations.
  • Shifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, statutory holidays, and peak retail seasons. # GTHP
