Job description

Overview

Healthcare environments are dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply human. As a Security Guard at Mississauga Hospital, you do far more than patrol corridors and monitor alarms. You serve as a reassuring presence for patients, visitors, and medical staff during some of their most stressful moments. By balancing vigilant safety protocols with genuine empathy, you will play a vital role in keeping this essential community space safe, welcoming, and running smoothly.

Whether you are looking to build a long-term career in healthcare security or gaining invaluable crisis-management experience for a future in public service, this full-time role offers unparalleled hands-on training and a clear path for professional growth within Paladin Security.

What Success Looks Like

In this role, success is measured by your ability to maintain a safe environment while treating every individual with dignity and respect. Your day-to-day responsibilities and long-term goals will include:

Responding to Emergencies: Quickly and calmly responding to hospital emergency codes, including patient-related distress situations (Code White) and fire alarms (Code Red), collaborating closely with clinical staff to de-escalate tense situations.

Providing Compassionate Assistance: Helping patients, visitors, and staff navigate the facility, answering questions, and offering a supportive presence in high-stress areas like the Emergency Department.

Conducting Active Patrols: Monitoring interior and exterior areas of the hospital to identify safety hazards, unauthorized access, or security vulnerabilities.

Accurate Reporting: Documenting incidents, daily logs, and maintenance issues with clear, detailed, and objective written reports.

Building Trust: Over time, becoming a relied-upon partner for the hospital's clinical and administrative teams through consistent professionalism, reliability, and proactive communication.

What You Bring (Must-Haves)

We train our team to the highest standards in the industry, but we require a solid foundation to start. To be considered for this role, you must have:

A valid First Aid and CPR/AED certificate (Level C).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to write clear and concise incident reports.

The flexibility to work a rotating schedule, including days, afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays, as hospitals operate 24/7.

Physical capability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 12 hours) and move quickly during emergencies.

Immunization records showing proof of two COVID-19 vaccine doses, immunity to Mumps, Measles, Rubella, and Varicella, and a completed two-step TB skin test.

Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.

Certification in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB). If you do not currently hold these certifications, Paladin will provide this training at no cost to you, subject to a 6-month commitment to the position.

Nice-to-Haves

While not strictly required, the following qualifications will help you stand out:

Prior experience working in security, customer service, or a healthcare setting.

Prior training in non-violent crisis intervention, such as Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).

Education or training in law enforcement, police foundations, criminology, or a healthcare-related field.
