Job summary

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is seeking a dedicated Security Guard to protect the Kahnawà:ke Office Complex. You will guard the premises, patrol to ensure safety, monitor alarms and cameras, and respond to security concerns for tenants and visitors.

Daily reports will be filed, and access will be controlled via security passes. Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma with security training or equivalent experience, strong communication skills, and a professional demeanor.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma with basic security training and 5 years relevant experience.
  • Alternatively, High School Diploma with 3 years relevant experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Guard the KOC against theft, vandalism, fire and illegal entry.
  • Patrol premises and monitor security systems and cameras.
  • Respond to security concerns and summon authorities as needed.
  • Maintain logs of visitors, deliveries, and patrols.
  • Control access by issuing and deactivating security passes.
  • Direct visitors and monitor entrances and exits.
  • Write daily activity reports within 24 hours.
  • Inspect and test security systems daily and arrange repairs as needed.
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of keys.
  • Greet couriers and coordinate deliveries with tenants.

Job description

Purpose:

Is responsible for the security and safety of the Kahnawà:ke Office Complex (KOC), to guard the building and grounds against theft, vandalism, fire, and illegal entry.

To maintain order and foresee security regulations at the KOC.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Carries out general duties to guard the KOC against theft, vandalism, fire, and illegal entry.

  • Maintains familiarity with KOC property, tenants, and personnel.
  • Patrols and protects the establishment to ensure the safety and security of the premises, the tenants, and visitors during the assigned shift.
  • Responds to all security concerns from tenants and company personnel.
  • Maintains the visitor/delivery and patrol log as per the established schedule in the Security Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Controls access to the establishment by issuing and deactivating security passes as requested by the tenants and the employer.
  • Directs announced visitors to appropriate areas, monitors the entrance and departure of personnel and others to maintain security daily.
  • Operates the security control room equipment to monitor the establishment.
  • Monitors security cameras and reports unusual activities to the immediate supervisor; provides camera footage to authorities when requested.
  • Responds immediately to all alarms and other emergencies, investigates disturbances, and notifies the police or fire department, as necessary.
  • Writes reports of daily activities, detailing events that occurred during the shift and reporting any incidents, unusual occurrences, or observations to the Immediate Supervisor within 24 hours.
  • Inspects and tests security systems daily to ensure proper operation and to detect evidence of tampering, and immediately notifies the Immediate Supervisor when system is not operating properly.
  • As directed, immediately arrange for required repairs.
  • Ensures control, safekeeping and identification of all keys for the KOC.
  • Greets couriers and delivery personnel to determine destination of the delivery (i.e., mail, packages, equipment, furniture, and food).
  • Immediately contact the tenants to request their presence at the security desk to accept their delivery.

To maintain order and enforce security regulations at the KOC.

  • Ensures the establishment’s security, safety, and emergency procedures are followed by tenants and visitors, warns people of safety and security rule violations, and evicts violators from the premises.
  • Takes control and directs others in emergencies or other dangerous situations in accordance with established procedures in the Security Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Ensures availability of and access to building plans and blueprints for emergencies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of the KOC information, activities, and matters.
  • Supervises work activities of security repair technicians.Notifies Immediate Supervisor when backup support is required to carry out duties during peak periods, vacations, and other absences from the office to ensure a continuous service is provided.
Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma, along with attestation/certification of basic security training plus five (5) years relevant experience.

OR

  • High school Diploma plus three (3) years' relevant experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Familiarity with basic security concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and attitude, including ability to show tact, discretion, and courtesy when dealing with the KOC tenants, visitors, clients, and contractors.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as security and safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and work logs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office capability in Word, Outlook, and Explorer (e.g.: to write reports, fill-out timesheets/forms, and send/receive email).
  • Knowledge of electronic security systems.
  • Must be willing to complete a security course and acquire a security certificate/license.
  • Ability to analyze irregular events and report critical situations.
  • Good judgment and common sense.
  • Conducts business with internal and external clients in a tactful, discreet, and courteous manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Adhere to the MCK Administration Manual-Personnel Policy and Kanien’kéha Language initiatives.
  • Ability to communicate in the Kanien’kéha and French languages is an asset.
  • The willingness to learn the Kanien’kéha language is required.
Working Environment:
  • Normal work schedule is twelve (12) hours for four (4) days followed by four days off that.
  • involves weekend work dependent on the shift (the day shift will normally work 6:00 a.m. to6:00 p.m. and the night shift will normally work 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.).
  • Indoor work climate.
  • Some outdoor work and exposure to variations in weather conditions andseasonal weather patterns.
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet deadlines or to work on special projects/tasks.
  • Moderate stress levels and productivity pressures associated with carrying out and completing tasks.
  • Will be required to regularly be in a sitting position for the most part, but also required to stand, walk around office, and use hands and fingers to handle security system controls.
