Job summary

Sunshine Village Corporation in Banff National Park is seeking a Security Foreperson to protect guests, staff and resort property. The role requires vigilance, clear reporting, and the ability to coordinate after-hours emergency responses while working closely with the Mountain Operations team.

Description

The Security Foreperson is in a highly visible role, providing outstanding experience via the protection and surveillance of guests, staff, and the Resort premises. The Foreperson is trained to observe, record, and report on atypical interactions, and to accurately respond to situations requiring attention to detail and increased reporting requirements (including, but not limited to scenarios involving employees, trespassing, the Criminal Code, the National Fire Code). The Security Foreperson reports to the Security Supervisory team and Mountain Operations Manager, acting as a designate supervisor/contact when the Supervisory team is offsite, and works closely with all departments at the Resort.

Essential Functions
  • Contribute to constructive guest interactions by offering up assistance and polite reminders of current rules and regulations. De-escalate situations and know when to call for additional enforcement personnel, where necessary.
  • Monitor, manage access, and ensure checks are completed in all areas of the ski area leasehold – including outdoor areas, pop-up venues, buildings, structures, alpine terrain, staff accommodation.
  • Observe, record, report findings that are not within the scope of company policies and procedures, the National Parks Act, the Criminal Code, the National Fire Code, and other regulations, whether the incident involves guests, staff, or is related to other circumstances (wildlife, property, vehicle, equipment damage, hazardous spill, etc.).
  • Coordinate after-hours emergency response. Respond to alarms (fire, building, phone alerts) and react appropriately with the correct type and level of response.
  • Occasionally assist with snow removal from public facing areas, which includes decks, walkways, entrances, stairways, and other high traffic locations.
Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities
  • Keeping a detailed, tidy, confidential notebook recording all persons, and observations of interest.
  • Assist with department operations: scheduling hours and task work at various locations throughout the Resort, liaising with other departments and operations teams.
  • Generate reports and emails to document findings in a timely manner.
  • Create formal, detailed, accurate reports where required for investigation or further agency reporting.
  • Timely and accurate incident reporting and deficiencies reporting to appropriate departments/personnel.
  • It is critical that this position must always ensure professional, confidential, and helpful interactions, assisting and supporting with potentially serious or escalated situations and ensuring the safety of others.
  • A thorough understanding of the company’s operations, policies, goals, and objectives is required, along with a commitment to uphold the standards of professionalism and accountability outlined in the Security Services and Investigators Act.
Experience/Requirements
  • Must hold a valid Alberta Security Services Licence.
  • Completed ProServe, ProTect training.
  • Must be 21 years or old with a clean driving record – Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent) and drivers abstract evidencing last three (3) years in all relevant jurisdictions to be provided on start.
  • Positive, professional attitude, with a demonstrated ability to be calm under pressure and patient.
  • Must possess good judgment and communication skills, and a strong ability to deescalate and manage potentially serious situations.
  • Must possess a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products (Teams, Excel, Sharepoint).
  • Prepared to work flexible schedules (weekends, early mornings, evenings, holidays, overnight shifts).
  • Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions (appropriate footwear, layers, gloves, etc.)
  • Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally.
  • Maintain professional conduct when in uniform on or off-duty, and online.
  • Effectively provide support and assistance to coworkers and all Sunshine Village staff and volunteers.
Additional Considerations
  • Employees must always be of sound mind, exhibit good judgment, and report to work fit for duty.
  • This physical position requires the ability to move around a large premises, standing for long periods of time and occasional heavy work.
  • This role may operate machinery and vehicles.
  • Personnel may at times work alone, and at night, and are in a remote, alpine environment.
  • Ability to ski or snowboard is an asset but not required. Skiing or snowboarding for work requires completion of a competency test, skiing and riding professionally, and is restricted to designated runs.
  • Skiing or snowboarding equipment used for work must be in good operating condition, meet Sunshine Village Equipment requirements, and may be tested throughout the season.
  • Some required uniform pieces (liner, jacket, pants, radio) are provided. Forepersons must be prepared and wear appropriate footwear, gloves, layers etc. for the conditions.
