Role Responsibilities

Do you have a passion for Public Safety? The Alberta Court of Justice is seeking a Security and Emergency Management Analyst to support judicial operations. If you thrive on analytical problem solving and inter-agency collaboration, this is your chance to make an impact on the safety of Alberta’s judicial system. Your analysis protects people and operations. As the Security and Emergency Management Analyst you will provide professional analytical and advisory support to the Judicial IT Security Officer in the coordination of physical security initiatives, and emergency preparedness planning for public safety. You will serve as a key link between judicial operations and protective services, ensuring organizational resilience and readiness.

Physical Security Coordination

• Analyze, support planning for, and contribute professional recommendations related to the implementation and review of physical security measures across judicial facilities.
• Collaborate with Protective Services Officers to assess site security posture and recommend improvements.
• Support physical security risk assessments and mitigation planning.
• Track and document security incidents and follow-up actions.
• Plan, design, coordinate, and evaluate tabletop exercises and emergency simulations involving judicial staff, Court Technology Services, and Protective Services.
• Independently develop exercise documentation, scenarios, after-action reports, and improvement plans, incorporating lessons learned and best practices.
• Maintain and update emergency response and continuity planning documentation.
• Support business continuity and incident recovery coordination.

Public Safety Liaison

• Serve as a primary working-level liaison with the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Services and other external partners on emergency preparedness and physical security matters.
• Coordinate communications between Judicial facilities and external emergency management partners.
• Support joint planning initiatives and information-sharing efforts.
• Participate in relevant inter-agency working groups and planning committees.
• Assist in coordinating response efforts during security or emergency incidents.
• Provide timely situational analysis and professional reporting to the Judicial IT Security Officer to support operational decision-making.
• Maintain incident up to date documentation and lessons-learned records.
• Support post-incident reviews and corrective action tracking.

• Research, draft, and provide advisory input into the development and updating of physical security and emergency management policies and procedures.
• Analyze and support alignment with applicable provincial and federal legislation, standards, and judicial security requirements.

Qualifications

University Graduation in a related field (Emergency Management, Public Safety, Criminal Justice, etc.) plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Other Requirements:

• Occasional after-hours support during emergency incidents or exercises.
• May require travel between judicial facilities across the province.
• May require participation in live emergency simulations.

Assets include:

• 3–5 years of experience working with law enforcement, emergency management, physical security, public safety agencies, protective services, or related field, also an understanding of physical security controls and risk assessment methodologies.
• Experience organizing tabletop exercises or emergency simulations.
• Experience providing analytical or advisory support to senior leaders or management in a public-sector environment or Judicial environment is preferred.
• Relevant professional certification or training, such as Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Associate Emergency Manager (AEM), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Business Continuity certifications (e.g., CBCP), Incident Command System (ICS) training

This is a permanent position, full-time, working Monday to Friday 8:15AM - 4:30PM, 36.25 hours a week.
