Centrally located in downtown Vancouver, the BC Securities Commission (BCSC) strives to make the investment markets benefit the public – enabling people to achieve their financial goals, enterprises to grow, and British Columbia to thrive. Through smart rules, diligent oversight, strong enforcement and reliable guidance, we act as guardians of the province’s investment marketplace, striving to make BC a place where people can invest with confidence and companies can flourish. We are an independent agency accountable to the provincial legislature and the public through the Minister of Finance.

Role

Become an integral member of a team of highly skilled professionals including chartered professional accountants, lawyers and geologists that play a key role in regulating British Columbia’s dynamic capital markets.

Key Responsibilities

The work of the Corporate Disclosure team is varied, interesting, and challenging. We review all BC-based public offerings, including large IPOs and small venture offerings, across a diverse and ever-changing set of industries, such as mining, technology, biotechnology, and manufacturing. The successful candidate will:

  • perform in-depth reviews of public offerings to assess compliance with securities legislation;
  • conduct reviews of public companies to assess if they are in compliance with their continuous disclosure obligations;
  • assess compliance with IFRS for financial statements of public companies, and companies entering the public markets, including those completing RTOs and other complex transactions;
  • if a company is found to be non-compliant, recommend regulatory action to the Manager, Corporate Disclosure;
  • provide guidance and interpretation of securities legislation to Commission staff, industry participants and the public; and
  • work with staff from securities commissions across Canada on policy projects to improve securities legislation, including those to reduce regulatory burden.

The successful candidate will gain a wide range of expertise in public company compliance obligations through executing the above key responsibilities and drawing upon the experience of a highly-seasoned professional team.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of public accounting experience;
  • CPA Designation
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards, with the ability to research complex accounting issues and apply professional judgment in recommending the appropriate regulatory response
  • Sound judgment and excellent analytical skills, and an ability to assess materiality in complex and changing circumstances
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
What we offer

We offer a challenging and rewarding work environment which includes:
