Job summary

Coast Hotels is seeking a Second Cook to support food preparation and delivery across the culinary team. The role emphasizes high standards of quality, presentation, and customer service in a fast-paced hotel kitchen.

You will work with a dynamic team, follow menu descriptions and build sheets, and adhere to safety and hygiene regulations while contributing to a positive work environment and exceptional guest experiences.

Qualifications

• High school completion required; aim to obtain Inter-Provincial Trade Qualifications.
• Certifications: Food Safe Level I, WHMIS.
• Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 30 lbs, and work in a fast-paced kitchen.

Responsibilities

• Works a variety of shifts & stations.
• Ensures food preparation and service delivery standards are met.
• Maintains quality, quantity and presentation of all food.
• Manages mise en place, requisitioning, receiving, storage and rotation of stock.
• Prepares, cooks and presents food per menu descriptions and server checks.
• Adheres to food safety, hygiene and cleanliness regulations.
• Maintains security and control of food stocks to minimize waste.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by Culinary leadership.

The Second Cook (2nd Cook) will contribute to the overall success of the hotel by assisting in food preparation, providing superior customer service and specialized services for the culinary department. This role is responsible for maintaining a positive work environment and high internal/external customer service standards.

Responsibilities

• Works a variety of shifts & stations
• Ensures food preparation and service delivery standards are consistently achieved and maintained
• Ensures quality, quantity and presentation of all food prepared, meeting the Coast Hotels standards for freshness, appearance and consistency
• Ensures correct daily requisitioning, receiving, storage and rotation of "mise en place"
• Prepares, cooks and presents food as outlined in the menu descriptions, build sheets, photos, and / or Server’s checks
• Is committed to working safely, including adherence to food safety regulations, hygiene and cleanliness
• Ensures the security and control of all food stocks used in the Kitchen to ensure minimum food wastage
• Carries out other duties as assigned by the Culinary leadership team

Knowledge/Skills/Experience

• Successful completion of high school, with a commitment to obtaining the Inter-Provincial Trade Qualifications
• The following certifications are required: Food Safe Level I, WHMIS
• Hepatitis A vaccination recommended
• Self-motivated team player with demonstrated interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, multi-functional team environment
• Good customer service philosophy
• Good communication skills in the English language
• Able to meet physical demands of the position, including standing for long period of time, lifting up to 30 lbs, and bending
