Job summary

Heeman’s is seeking a Retail Greenhouse Associate to assist customers with plant selection and care, maintain attractive displays, and keep the greenhouse well stocked. The role involves lifting and organizing plants, including fall annuals and mums, and supporting seasonal transitions.

You will help create a welcoming shopping experience, learn plant varieties, and ensure visual brand standards while upholding safety policies and assisting fellow staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Gardening experience or willingness to learn.
• Exceptional customer service.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Basic computer skills.
• Personal or professional experience with plants, plant solutions, pottery and/or décor.
• Prior retail, agriculture or greenhouse work experience is considered an asset.
• Language: advanced English (written and oral).

Responsibilities

• Assist customers by locating products, making recommendations, advising on plant care, and answering questions about high-moving annual plants (fall annuals and mums).
• Take customer inquiries and direct them to the indicated department location.
• Ensure the area is a shoppable, welcoming environment and maintains the "Happy Place" feel.
• Restock by condensing stock, replenishing inventory from backstock, and moving products from hoop houses for backstock.
• Maintain appearance by straightening containers, pruning plants gently, and removing debris.
• Set up displays, signage, and ensure seasonal fall displays with mums and fall annuals are stocked and attractive.
• Maintain brand standards and inventory levels; answer radio calls with proper etiquette.
• Operate a golf cart when needed; keep space clean and organized.
• Support transfer of plants between areas and learn plant varieties and care across a range of products.
• Contribute to Heeman’s success by supporting relevant projects and maintaining a positive attitude and work habits.
• Comply with HR, SOP, and Food, Health & Safety policies; perform other duties as assigned.

We believe our amazing staff is the key to making our space a “Happy Place” for everyone who enters.As a Retail Greenhouse Associate, you will help create an exceptional shopping experience by assisting customers with plant selection and care, maintaining attractive displays, and keeping the retail greenhouse well stocked and organized. You will also support our busy seasonal transitions, particularly with fall annuals and mums, including setting up displays and ensuring plants are well cared for and ready for customers.This is an active, hands‑on role that involves regularly lifting, moving, and organizing plants and larger containers, including heavy seasonal plants and mums.

• Wage: $17.60/hour

Responsibilities

• Assist customers by locating specific products, making informed recommendations, advising them on appropriate plant care, and answering any additional questions they may have about high‑moving annual plants, including fall annuals and mums
• Take customer inquiries and direct them to location of the department they’ve indicated
• Ensure the area is a shoppable environment and “Happy Place” for all customers who walk through
• Participate in the restocking process by condensing available product, replenishing low inventory levels from backstock, writing replenishment lists, and moving product from the hoop houses for backstock, including seasonal fall annuals and mums
• Maintain the appearance of the area by straightening containers, pinching the plants as they grow, and removing debris particles from the plants
• Set up displays, marketing and/or signage in the area and ensure that patio pots, window boxes, hanging baskets, and seasonal fall displays featuring mums and fall annuals are well stocked and visually appealing
• Ensure visual brand standards and inventory levels are maintained
• Answer radio calls from all departments with appropriate radio etiquette
• Operate the golf cart when needed in a safe manner
• Clean the physical space by sweeping/weeding the floor, emptying any garbage or compost bins, cleaning litter, and organizing the shared staff space
• Restocking and transfer of plants (ie. patio pots and hanging baskets) to different areas as needed
• Learn plant varieties and care information for a wide range of plants and garden products
• Contribute to the overall success of Heeman’s by overseeing/supporting and other relevant projects and exhibiting a positive attitude and positive work habits.
• Work in compliance with all human resources, operational (SOP) and Food, Health & Safety policies and procedures
• Any other duties as assigned

Availability

• Open availability for September/October.
• Transportation plan: Heeman’s is not located on a bus route.
