Job summary

Lakes District Maintenance, part of the Volker Stevin family, seeks an Auxiliary Highway Maintenance Worker & Operator for Burns Lake, BC. The role involves safe operation of heavy trucks and equipment for highway upkeep, with a focus on safety and physical work in varying conditions.

Requirements include a valid BC Class 3 with air brake endorsement, a clean Driver’s Abstract, and 2+ years in highway maintenance; graders experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Valid BC Class 3 with air brake endorsement or higher with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
• 2+ years’ experience in highway maintenance is preferred
• Experience operating graders is considered an asset
• Good working knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations
• Good knowledge of safety rules and regulations as they pertain to the driving and operation of vehicles, equipment, and machinery
• Mechanical and operational aptitude
• Physically fit, mentally alert with the ability to perform manual tasks outdoors in varying weather conditions

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment and perform manual labour duties related to road surface maintenance such as snow and ice control, roadside maintenance, traffic control maintenance, and annual maintenance works
• Inspect, maintain, and operate equipment to company standards and report problems
• Complete fuel logs, road reports, and safety/environmental documentation as related to specific jobs
• Contribute to safety culture and apply company performance standards
