Job description

Grow your culinary career at one of the most unique sites in Calgary! The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo’s catering department is looking for a seasonal Chef de Partie to join our enthusiastic and energetic Catering Team. The Chef de Partie is responsible for overseeing culinary operations in the absence of the Executive or Sous Chefs. They will execute all event orders, including hands-on food preparation, delivery, and clean-up.

Contract:
  • Start Date: May 2025
  • End Date: January 2026
What you will do:
  • Create exceptional experiences through high-quality food and superior customer service
  • Adhere to policies and procedures regarding sanitation and sanitary food handling
  • Lead in training staff, developing recipes, and supporting management
  • Prepare food as per specifications on Event Orders
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas, including countertops, utensils, equipment, and refrigeration, following health and safety regulations
  • Organize and maintain storage areas
  • Support other kitchen positions as needed
  • Comply with the zoo’s health and safety program
  • Perform additional duties as required
What you will bring:
  • 3+ years experience in a culinary environment
  • Red Seal certification (asset)
  • Food Safety training (strongly preferred)
  • Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Supervisory experience (asset)
  • Experience with menu engineering and food cost control
  • Strong leadership and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to operate golf carts and panel trucks
  • Ability to follow instructions on catering sheets
  • Experience requisitioning and ordering inventory
  • Excellent communication skills
Working Conditions:
  • Standing throughout entire shift
  • Fast-paced environment
  • Exposure to hot & cold elements in the kitchen
  • Outdoor work on Zoo grounds
  • Exposure to flora and fauna
  • Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs), walking, and prolonged standing

The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility; staff must be comfortable working in various outdoor conditions. We follow Environment Canada's advice regarding temperature and air quality. The zoo is a no-smoking environment, including vaping.
