Morphocell Technologies Inc. is seeking a Scientist I to support design, development and evaluation of implantable medical devices and cell-therapy products at our Greater Montreal Area headquarters.

The role emphasizes independent experimental design, execution and data interpretation across in vitro and in vivo-relevant studies, with collaboration across Discovery, Development, Quality and Regulatory teams.

Qualifications

  • B.S., M.S. or PhD in a scientific discipline (biology, bioengineering, biomedical sciences, chemical engineering, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • 0-2 years of relevant industry or post-doctoral experience.
  • Strong understanding of foundational scientific principles with advanced proficiency in common and specialized laboratory practices.
  • Ability to independently design and interpret experiments addressing problems of moderate scope.
  • Experience with cell culture, tissue culture, and cell handling required.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and data interpretation methods.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Comfortable working under general supervision for routine tasks and detailed guidance for new assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Generate scientific data to inform material selection, process parameters, and product performance.
  • Support development and execution of in vitro assays and preclinical-relevant test methods.
  • Identify scientific gaps and propose solutions to improve understanding and performance.
  • Communicate results and conclusions to cross-functional teams clearly.

Job description

Position Overview:
The Scientist I is a scientific individual contributor within the Product Engineering department supporting the design, development, and evaluation of implantable medical devices and combination products for cell therapy applications. This role focuses on independent experimental design, execution, and interpretation of complex in vitro and in vivo-relevant studies, supporting product development, process development, and preclinical readiness. The Scientist I applies foundational and advanced scientific principles to generate high-quality data, draw sound conclusions, and collaborate cross-functionally with Discovery, Process & Analytical Development, Preclinical Development, Quality, and Regulatory teams. This role operates with general guidance on routine work and detailed guidance on new assignments, with increasing independence as experience is demonstrated. This position is based at Morphocell Technologies headquarters in the Greater Montreal Area.

Key Responsibilities:

Independently design, plan, execute, and interpret complex experiments to support development of implantable devices, hydrogel-based delivery systems in combination products.

Apply appropriate statistical and analytical approaches to evaluate experimental data and draw scientifically sound conclusions.

Perform complex laboratory operations and analytical assays, including cell culture, tissue culture, and cell-based functional testing.

Support feasibility studies, optimization studies, and hypothesis-driven investigations addressing problems of moderate scope.

Collaborate with Product Engineering to support development and refinement of device-cell combinations through experimental evaluation.

Generate scientific data to inform material selection, process parameters, and product performance.

Support development and execution of in vitro assays and preclinical-relevant test methods.

Identify scientific gaps and propose creative solutions to improve product understanding and performance.

Work closely with engineers, scientists, and preclinical colleagues to align experimental plans with program objectives.

Effectively communicate experimental results, conclusions, and limitations to cross-functional teams.

Support alignment around straightforward technical decisions through clear presentation of data.

Author, review, and maintain technical documentation including study plans, protocols, reports, and data summaries.

Contribute to SOPs, laboratory procedures, and technical documentation supporting R&D and preclinical activities.

Ensure experiments and documentation are conducted in accordance with internal quality systems and good laboratory practices.

Manage small, usually established projects or defined scientific workstreams of limited scope.

Proactively plan and prioritize experimental work in alignment with project timelines and functional goals.

Deliver results on time with appropriate scientific rigor and documentation.

May provide technical leadership for small scientific efforts or mentor junior technical staff.

Train team members on laboratory techniques, assays, and best practices.

Take initiative to build connections within and outside the organization to advance scientific understanding.

Demonstrate scientific curiosity, creativity, and willingness to challenge existing assumptions.

Educational Background:

B.S., M.S. or PhD in a scientific discipline (e.g., biology, bioengineering, biomedical sciences, chemical engineering, or related field), or equivalent experience in engineering or applied sciences. Post-doctoral experience may be considered.

Experience / Knowledge / Abilities:

0-2 years of relevant industry or post-doctoral experience.

Demonstrated potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and independent thought.

Strong understanding of foundational scientific principles with advanced proficiency in common and specialized laboratory practices.

Ability to independently design and interpret experiments addressing problems of moderate scope.
