Job summary

Sheshegwaning First Nation is looking for a School Wellness Nurse to promote children's health in schools and communities. This full-time role involves providing assessments, coordinating care, and delivering health programming.

The ideal candidate will hold a nursing registration, have at least two years of experience, and be dedicated to the health and well-being of children and youth. Benefits include a comprehensive package and a 4-day work week.

Qualifications

School Wellness Nurse

Location: Sheshegwaning Health Centre

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Sheshegwaning First Nation is seeking a School Wellness Nurse who is responsible for promoting the health, wellness, and overall well-being of children and youth through prevention-focused nursing services delivered within the school and community. Guided by the principles of Brighter Futures and Building Healthy Communities, the School Wellness Nurse provides health promotion, early intervention, education, screening, and care coordination. This position reports directly to the Director of Health & Wellbeing.

What You’ll Do

• Provide nursing assessments and first-line clinical care for students presenting with illness or injury.
• Monitor and support students with chronic health conditions, including asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, allergies, and other medical needs.
• Identify emerging physical, emotional, developmental, behavioral, and mental health concerns.
• Facilitate referrals and service navigation for students and families.
• Develop, coordinate and deliver health promotion programming.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Coordinate school immunization initiatives in partnership with Mnaamodzawin Health Services when appropriate.
• Participate in collaborative planning to address barriers affecting student wellness and attendance.

What You Bring

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
• Two years of nursing experience preferred
• Experience in community & public health, school health, pediatrics, or Indigenous health considered an asset.
• Must have a valid “G” Class driver’s license
