Job summary

NISHNAWBE EDUCATION COUNCIL in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse to support Pelican Falls First Nations High School students. The role runs Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the school calendar and prorated salary.

You will provide on-site health services, manage treatment plans, administer medications, maintain records, and work with school staff to ensure a safe, healthy environment.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse or Bachelor of Science in Nursing is mandatory.
• Must be in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Certified in CPR and First Aid.
• Fluency in Native cultures/lifestyles is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical health services to students at Pelican Falls First Nations High School.
• Assess medical needs of students, determine treatment plans, provide follow up support.
• Refer complex needs to physician or other health professional(s).
• Administer medications, provide first aid, assist in emergency situations.
• Maintain/update on-site clinic and confidential student medical records.
• Collaborate with daytime nursing support and maintain open communication.
• Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming environment and participate in team meetings.
• Liaise with partners and respond to inquiries from parents and teachers.

Sioux Lookout, Ontario

Pelican Falls First Nations High School (PFFNHS) in Sioux Lookout requires one full-time Registered Nurse to provide health care services and support to students attending PFFNHS. This position will work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through the school calendar, salary will be prorated over the full year (26 pay periods).

Responsibilities:

• Provide medical health services to students at the Pelican Falls First Nations High School
• Assess medical needs of students, determine treatment plans, provide follow up support
• Refer complex needs to physician or other health professional(s)
• Administer medications, provide first aid, assist in emergency situations etc.
• Maintain/update on-site clinic and confidential student medical records
• Work in collaboration and maintain communication with other daytime nursing support
• Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming and positive environment at all times
• Prepare evaluations and summaries of students including recommendations
• Develop or assist in developing treatment plans for students
• Work closely with PFFNHS, PFC and On-Call staff to support students who are “at risk” or “in crisis”
• Provide daily or weekly check-ins with students as required
• Participate in team meetings as required
• Liaise with other organizations, partners and/or professionals
• Respond to parent, teacher and or student inquiries
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Registered Nurse or Bachelor of Science in Nursing is mandatory;
• Must be in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario
• Certified in CPR and First Aid
• Ability to assess and provide health care needs to students
• Knowledge and understanding of Native culture, traditions and lifestyles
• Excellent leadership, motivation, and problem-solving skills
• Fluency in Oji-Cree, Cree or Ojibway is an asset
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently
• Able to work effectively and collaboratively with others
• Strong communication skills
• Valid Class “G” Driver’s License
• Salary: $73,255 to $90,094

All staff are compensated 13 weeks of vacation either with vacation days, monetary compensation or a combination of both.
