Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a School Sport & Recreation Coordinator to oversee after-school programs at Allison Bernard Memorial High School and Eskasoni Middle School. The position requires a post-secondary diploma/degree in a relevant field, experience in coordinating events, and strong English/Mi'kmaq communication skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or Kinesiology related field.
• Experience coordinating sports, recreation, or cultural events.
• Staff supervision/management experience is an asset.
• Fluency in English and Mi'kmaq; strong communication skills.
• First Aid and WHMIS required or willingness to obtain upon hire.
• Ability to work with students, school staff, and parents and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee after-school sport/recreation leaders.
• Guide staff to ensure activities run smoothly.
• Coordinate and lead intramurals, fitness classes, tournaments and community activities.
• Manage gym scheduling, rentals, and equipment maintenance.
• Develop culturally-relevant school-based recreation and wellness activities.
• Assist with budget monitoring and resource allocations.
• Promote events and build relationships with participants and partners.
• Liaise with school staff, parents/guardians; supervise chaperones as needed.
• Support coaching of school-based sports and safe program operations.
• Ensure a safe, inclusive environment for participants.
• Prepare attendance and activity reports; manage supplies.

Job Summary

The after-school Sport & Recreation Activity Coordinator plans and oversees school-based activity programs, sports, and events for students of various ages and skill levels. This role provides direct supervision to after-school sport & recreation leaders and execution of the daily activities of the program.

Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee the after-school sport/recreation leaders;
• Assist and guide staff to ensure program activities are running smoothly;
• Coordinate and schedule and lead sports intramurals, fitness classes, tournaments and community recreational activities;
• Coordinate gym scheduling, rentals, equipment maintenance;
• Plan, organize and implement culturally-relevant school-based recreation, sport, fitness and wellness activities/ games;
• Assist in developing, monitoring and managing program budgets and resource allocations;
• Promote events and build relationships with participants, contractors and other community sport recreation organizations;
• Liaise with school staff, parents/guardians;
• Assist with coaching school-based sports and chaperoning;
• Provide a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for participants;
• Coordinate assembly, maintenance/repair sport, playground and game equipment to ensure safe conditions;
• Prepare reports on participant attendance, program activities, equipment, and needs;
• Maintain supplies/equipment for program activities;
• Lead by example and form positive relationships with students and program monitors.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum Post Secondary diploma or degree, Recreation, Sports Management, Kinesiology related field an asset
• Must have experience coordinating sports, recreation or cultural events
• Staff supervision and management experience an asset
• Strong communication, organization, time management and public speaking skills
• Fluency in English and Mi'kmaq.
• First Aid and WHMIS required or willingness to obtain upon hire.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with students, school staff, and parents.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of program participants, parents/guardians and school staff.
