Job summary

Star Building Materials Calgary is seeking a Saw Operator - Lumber to support yard operations. You will cut lumber accurately to order specifications using a variety of saws while maintaining a safe work environment at our AB facility.

Ideal candidates are organized, strong communicators, and active listeners who can handle multiple priorities. The role requires basic reading/writing, math, 6 months saw experience, and lifting up to 50 lbs, with potential overtime.

Qualifications

• Completion of middle school, reading/writing and basic math required.
• Minimum 6 months of experience operating table saw, shop saw and radial arm saw.
• Criminal record check must be satisfactory.
• Physically able to kneel, crouch and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination and situational awareness.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing work instructions and determining lumber requirements.
• Inspecting and storing lumber, replenishing materials at the station.
• Coordinating lumber placements with forklift operator.
• Ensuring lumber is sawed to specified dimensions and angles.
• Examining work orders to determine procedures and equipment setup.
• Promoting safety and reporting violations in the safety program.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Yard Manager, as the Saw Operator - Lumber you areresponsible for cutting lumber accurately according to order specifications using a variety of saws. You work in a safe manner, and adhere to Qualico’s Safety Program.

Your Day-to-day Responsibilities Will Include

• Reviewing work instructions and determining the accurate lumber required for the job.
• Inspecting quality and storing lumber in designated areas. Replenishing and organizing raw materials at the station.
• Coordinating lumber placements with the forklift operator when necessary.
• Ensuring lumber is sawed accurately according to specified dimensions and angles.
• Examining work orders to determine appropriate procedures and proper setup of equipment.
• Promoting a safe work environment, adhering to Qualico’s Safety Program and relevant safety regulations. Report safety violations when necessary.

Essential Requirements

• Completion of middle school, must be able to read and write and perform basic math.
• Minimum 6 months of experience operating table saw, shop saw and radial arm saw.
• Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.
• Physically able to kneel and crouch as well as lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing up to 50lbs.
• Attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, and situational awareness of the physical work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience using a variety of tools such as nail guns, saws and banding machines is definitely an asset.
• Working in a production plant with lumber is and asset.

Working Conditions

You primarily work on site during regular business hours. Work has exposure to noise from equipment/machinery and occupational hazards as well as dealing with inclement weather and dust. Overtime may occasionally be required.
