Backed by a fifth-generation family-owned company, Spicers is a leading distributor of commercial print and business papers, specialty products, graphic solutions, sign & display equipment and materials, and packaging and facility supplies and equipment.

We’re based in Vaughan, Ontario, with 15 regional locations that include custom manufacturing facilities in Edmonton, Toronto and Winnipeg, as well as cash and carry locations, product showrooms and equipment demo sites.

We are currently looking for a full-time Sales Manager located in Ontario, reporting to General Sales Manager.

Summary

The Sales Manager is responsible for growing key customer alliances in various geographic regions. The incumbent will ensure focused sales efforts, effective brand strategies and coordinated marketing efforts with all Sales Consultants. The objective of this position is to compliment the creativity and energy of Sales Consultants to maximize effectiveness for both the Company and our suppliers. The incumbent will manage the sales and business development staff with responsibility for sales revenue, tons and gross trading margin. Essentially, this position is responsible for the attainment of budget goals, sales, profit and to ensure continuous growth within their market segment.

Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate and integrate regional sales and marketing plans;
  • Regularly communicates the status of sales/marketing programs and the achievement of regional performance targets to General Manager and Sales Consultants;
  • Discuss with the General Manager on a frequent basis the status of key supplier and customer relationships;
  • Participate in the segmentation of both products and markets with a view to improving segment performance;
  • Maintain direct contact with key regional and national customers across all market segments;
  • Participate in the identification of new products and new market opportunities;
  • Ensure that region cost effectively invest in marketing our supplier’s products and fulfills specific tonnage commitments;
  • Provide support for overall price list production by ensuring comprehensiveness and appropriate product positioning;
  • Reinforce throughout the region the importance of fairness and integrity in all dealings with employees, suppliers, and customers;
  • Provide leadership, motivation, and accountability to sales staff within the region and maintain ultimate responsibility for management of sales;
  • Consistently demonstrate the Spicers core guiding principles and fulfill the Spicers leadership pledge; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in a business or marketing related field;
  • Industry knowledge and understanding of paper manufacturing, paper distribution, graphic products, printing processes, sign and display or industrial supplies and packaging considered a strong asset;
  • Strong knowledge of product marketing and brand management;
  • Financial planning and budgeting skills;
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills;
  • Ability to identify and maintain knowledge of key contacts within the region and establish multi-level relationships;
  • Proficient in using MS Office;
  • Strong creative abilities;
  • Strong organization and time-management skills;
  • Punctual, dependable, and reliable;
  • Superior leadership skills;
  • Self-directed and self-motivated; and
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to travel;
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a vehicle;
  • Ability to work in a busy, open area office;
  • May have to spend long hours in concentration which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy;
  • This position faces a number of deadlines which may cause stress; and
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
