Job description

The Sales Engineer position shall have the responsibility and accountability for sales of High-efficiency Welded and Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers to direct-buying Top-Tier and Mid-Market accounts, with a particular focus on energy efficiency and upgrading/value-based sales. Sales of Compact Welded and Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers to direct-buying Top-Tier and Mid-Market accounts, with a focus on energy efficiency and value-based sales. Targeted industry segments include end-users and EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) companies in Chemical Production, Mineral Processing, Pulp & Paper, and potentially Oil & Gas industries.

This position reports to Alfa Laval's Canadian Corporate headquarters in Scarborough, Ontario. The successful candidate can be based in Scarborough, Calgary, or the Montreal/Quebec area.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  1. Prospect for and manage leads from the market and potential customers to identify new business opportunities and convert leads into real business opportunities to ensure sustainable growth.
  2. Engage actively with customers online and in person to build strong relationships as a trusted partner and provide excellent customer experience.
  3. Analyze market insights and customer buying behavior to develop sales plans aligned with division strategies and targets, working closely with experienced sales team leaders.
  4. Develop value-based quotes tailored to customer needs, highlighting unique selling points and benefits.
  5. Utilize the company's CRM and other tools consistently to support sales processes, decision-making, and follow-up on opportunities.
  6. Support other members of the Energy Process HX team as needed.

Education, Experience, Skills, and Attributes:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Applied Science/Engineering or an Engineering Technologist diploma. Preference for Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum disciplines, but not mandatory.

Experience: 3-10 years of post-education sales or sales engineering experience in targeted industry segments.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Self-motivated with the ability to initiate sales plans for prospects and customers.
  • Proactive 'hunter' mentality to prospect and convert leads into business.
  • Understanding of common unit operations and customer values in targeted segments.
  • Ability to create and execute business and strategic plans.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluent or professional-level ability to communicate in French is highly valued.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Collaborative attitude within local teams and global organization.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer products and applications in targeted segments.
