Job summary

Emterra Group is seeking a Safety, Risk & Compliance Specialist to advance our health and safety culture across BC operations. The role leads COR certification efforts, audits, and continuous improvement of ISO 45001 aligned systems, working with site leaders to implement effective safety programs.

The successful candidate will have 3+ years in health and safety, COR certification, and strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, with a track record in multi-site environments and the ability to

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Health & Safety policies, programs, and procedures across sites
  • Support COR audits, documentation reviews, corrective actions and continuous improvement
  • Lead safety inspections, incident investigations, and trend analyses
  • Collaborate with site leaders to implement location-specific safety processes and best practices
  • Maintain accurate Health & Safety records to meet regulatory and company requirements
  • Provide health & safety training and support Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings
  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure compliance across operations

We arecurrently searching for a Safety, Risk & Compliance Specialist tojoin our BC team at Emterra Group. The Health & Safety Specialist will playa key role in strengthening and advancing our safety culture by supporting thedevelopment, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safetymanagement systems across our operations. This role will provide leadership,guidance, and technical support to operational managers and supervisors inimplementing company safety programs, processes, and initiatives.

Theposition reports to the Director of Health & Safety/Risk.

Position Description
  • Support the ongoing development,implementation, and maintenance of company-wide Health & Safety managementsystems, programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Support the organization’s CORcertification requirements, including audit preparation, documentation review,corrective action tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implement, maintain, and improveHealth & Safety processes aligned with ISO 45001 Occupational Health &Safety Management System standards.
  • Conduct safety audits, workplaceinspections, hazard assessments, and compliance reviews to identifyopportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with operational leaders to develop and implement location-specific safety processes, procedures, andbest practices.
  • Maintain accurate and completeHealth & Safety records and documentation to meet regulatory and companyrequirements.
  • Review accident/incidentreporting, identify trends, and provide guidance in developing and sustainingcorrective and preventive action plans.
  • Manage Health & Safety data,reporting, and trend analysis for assigned sites.
  • Support incident investigationsand ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively.
  • Participate in Joint Health andSafety Committee meetings and provide guidance on safety initiatives.
  • Develop, update, and deliveremployee Health & Safety training programs.
  • Maintain safety managementsoftware systems and reporting tools as required.
  • Identify hazards and unsafe workpractices through site inspections, employee engagement, and operationalknowledge.
  • Provide recommendations to improve safety performance and reduce workplace risks.
  • Maintain current knowledge ofhealth and safety legislation, regulatory requirements, industry trends, andbest practices
Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven ability to coach,influence, and build strong relationships with employees, supervisors,managers, and leadership teams.
  • Ability to work independentlywith strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • 3+ years of progressiveexperience in a Health & Safety role, preferably within a multi-site,industrial, transportation, manufacturing, or waste management environment.
  • Completion of post-secondaryeducation from a recognized Occupational Health & Safety program or anequivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid COR (Certificate ofRecognition) certification is required.
  • Experience supporting CORaudits, maintaining certification requirements, and implementing correctiveaction plans.
  • Experience with ISO 45001Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems, including implementation,documentation, auditing, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Demonstrated experiencedeveloping, implementing, and improving Health & Safety programs,processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience conducting audits,inspections, hazard assessments, compliance reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Strong knowledge of occupationalhealth and safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • CRSP designation or progresstoward certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience working withmanagement teams in both unionized and non-unionized environments.
  • Experience supporting JointHealth and Safety Committees, safety training, and employee engagementinitiatives.
  • Proven ability to design anddeliver effective safety training programs with strong presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical,problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent command of the Englishlanguage (both verbal and written).
  • Strong proficiency in MicrosoftOffice Suite (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience in the wasteindustry, transportation, fleet, or manufacturing sectors is considered astrong asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel between BC sites as required.
