Wenzel Downhole Tools is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Safety Officer for its Edmonton facility. This position reports to the Executive Vice President, Machining Division - Manufacturing Operations, and is responsible for the health and safety program, Company-wide. The candidate will ensure all operations are conducted in a safe and efficient manner in conformance with provincial/federal safety regulations. This role is crucial in promoting a culture of continuous improvement of safety within the organization and requires strong communication skills and a proactive approach to risk management.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in compliance with local regulations and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Facilitate training development programs for employees on safety practices, emergency procedures, and equipment handling.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Collaborate with management to create a culture of safety awareness throughout the organization.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incident reports.
  • Provide guidance on the safe use of equipment and materials, ensuring that all employees are aware of potential risks.
  • Responsible for all aspects of Workers' Compensation (file and track claims, coordinate modified work program.
  • Maintain COR Program, including annual audits and current legislation requirements.
  • Perform and report risk assessments. Review, compile, and report incident reports, and analyze monthly statics.
  • Perform accident investigations and resolve action items. File HSE documents and participate in job risk analysis and continual improvement programs for the Company.
  • Liaison with all applicable OH&S inspectors, WCB, Fire Departments, and Public Health Departments.
  • Lead the Health and Safety Committee - plan, chair, and participate in staff safety meetings.
  • Oversee a comprehensive Emergency Response Program.

You have the following qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a safety officer role or similar position within an industrial or manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Experience in training development, with the ability to create educational materials for staff.
  • Completion of required safety/environmental training through MHSA or related.
  • Experience in auditing safety programs, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Ability to devise solutions for safety challenges. Demonstrate problem- solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Use of good judgment and analytical skills required. The ability to effectively convey safety information to all levels of staff. High degree of tact and diplomacy.
