Job summary

Sentry Fire Protection Services is seeking motivated, safety-focused Safety Field Technicians to join our Safety Division. This role supports high-risk industrial environments by conducting safety assessments, performing safety testing, monitoring air quality, and providing safety watch and related duties on customer sites.

Successful candidates will help identify hazards, support preventative measures, and maintain health and safety documentation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in industrial safety, emergency response, technical rescue, firefighting, confined space operations, or related field.
  • Experience in industrial, manufacturing, construction, utility, or commercial environments is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety assessments and identify workplace hazards.
  • Perform safety testing and monitor air quality as required.
  • Provide safety watch, bottle watch, spark watch, and related site safety support.
  • Maintain site-specific safety compliance and safe work practices at high-risk environments.
  • Complete required documentation including pre-job forms, permits, inspections, reports, and rescue plans.
  • Monitor job site conditions and equipment resources; report observations to a supervisor.
  • Maintain rescue, fall protection, emergency response, and safety equipment.
  • Participate in emergency response and rescue operations when required.
  • Provide First Aid and CPR/AED assistance during emergencies.
  • Support safety orientations, toolbox talks, training, drills, and rescue readiness activities.

Reports To: Designated Field Supervisor or Site Supervisor

Compensation

During in-house orientation and training: $25.78 perhour
Field Rescue Technician assignments: $29.01 per hour
Field Safety Technician assignments: $27.90 per hour
All wage rates are subject to adjustment in accordance with the applicableCollective Agreement.

About the Role

Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum1 year of experience in industrial safety, emergency response, technicalrescue, firefighting, confined space operations, or a related field.
  • Experiencein industrial, manufacturing, construction, utility, or commercialenvironments is considered an asset.
Required Certifications
  • StandardFirst Aid & CPR/AED.
  • FallProtection.
  • ConfinedSpace Entry & Monitor.
  • WHMIS.
  • ValidClass G Driver's Licence with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Abilityto obtain client-required site orientations, certifications, and securityclearances.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful completion of all required training.
  • Maintenance of all required certifications.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in Canada.

  • Successful completion of all client, security,and site access requirements.
  • Completion of all pre-employment onboardingrequirements.
  • Ability to become and remain a member in goodstanding of Carpenters Local 1256, in accordance with the applicable CollectiveAgreement.

New employees are subject to a probationary period offorty-five (45) days worked and acceptance into union membership, in accordancewith the Collective Agreement.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • TechnicalRope Rescue Technician certification.
  • ConfinedSpace Rescue Technician certification.
  • IncidentCommand System (ICS) training.
  • NCSO,CSO, CRSP, or similar safety designation.
  • NFPA1006 technical rescue training.
  • Industrialfirefighting experience.
  • Experiencesupporting industrial shutdowns, maintenance projects, or turnarounds.
Working Conditions

This position may involve fluctuating schedules, shiftduration, and weekly hours based on customer requirements, operational needs,site schedules, maintenance activities, shutdowns, turnarounds, and availablework. The Collective Agreement does not guarantee any minimum number of hoursof work.

  • Industrialand construction environments.
  • Workingat heights and in confined spaces.
  • Dayshifts, night shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments.
  • Exposureto varying weather conditions and active work sites.
  • Liftingand carrying equipment weighing up to 50 lbs or more.
  • Emergencyresponse situations requiring rapid decision-making and physical activity.

Required PPE may include safety footwear, hard hat, eyeprotection, hearing protection, fall protection equipment, respiratoryprotection, rescue harnesses, and high-visibility clothing.

Training, Onboarding & Union Requirements
  • Employer-required in-house orientation andtraining will be provided by Sentry Fire Protection Services.
  • Additional required training may be completedthrough the union hall.
  • Time spent attending employer-required in-housetraining will be paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
  • Course fees for training conducted and organizedthrough the union hall will be covered where applicable.
  • Continued employment is subject to availablework, operational requirements, required certifications and qualifications,company policies, client requirements, site rules, and the terms and conditionsof the Collective Agreement.
Overtime, Premiums & Pay
  • Overtime and premium pay will be administered inaccordance with the Collective Agreement.
  • Hours worked beyond eight (8) hours in a day,Monday through Friday, are currently paid at one and one-half (1.5x) times theapplicable hourly rate.
  • All hours worked on Saturdays are currently paidat one and one-half (1.5x) times the applicable hourly rate.
  • All hours worked on Sundays and recognizedstatutory holidays are currently paid at double time (2x) the applicable hourlyrate.
  • Employees working between 6:00 p.m. and 5:00a.m. are currently eligible for a night shift premium of $2.00 per hour worked.
  • Vacation pay and holiday pay are paid inaccordance with the Collective Agreement and applicable legislation.
