Job summary

Aecon Concessions is seeking a Safety Advisor for night shifts to support Metrolinx GO Expansion projects. You will conduct hazard assessments, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver safety training to on-site teams.

Responsibilities include incident investigations, safety inspections, and developing site-specific safety plans in collaboration with project managers and engineers. A strong background in heavy civil rail construction is preferred.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
• NCSO certification is an asset.
• CROR certification preferred.
• PTS certification preferred.
• A valid G-class driver’s license is required.

Position Title: Safety Advisor - Night Shift

Work is already underway on new track, stationrenovationsand infrastructure upgrades on parts of the Lakeshore, Stouffville,Kitchenerand Barrie lines. The investment will generate thousands of new jobs and economic opportunities across the region. TheONxpressCivil Joint Venture iscomprisedof Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc. and FCC Canada Ltd. This multidisciplinary team leads the delivery of civil and track works,leveragingglobalexpertiseto introduce innovative solutions across the GO Transit network.

What You’ll Do:

• Hazard Assessment and Management: Conducting comprehensive hazard assessments of construction sites and implementing measures to mitigate health,safetyand security risks to ensure the safety of all workers and visitors.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all construction activitiescomply withrelevant health and safety regulations, codes, and standards set forth by local authorities and regulatory bodies.
• Training and Education: Providing training sessions and educational materials to construction workers and site managers on safety protocols, procedures, and best practices to prevent accidents and injuries.
• Supporting Incident Investigation and Reporting: Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses on construction sites,determiningroot causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent similar occurrences in the future. They also ensure that all incidents are accurately documented and reported as per regulatory requirements.
• Safety Inspections and Audits: Conducting regular inspections and audits of construction sites to assess compliance with safety standards,identifypotential hazards, and recommend corrective actions to improve safety performance.
• Safety Planning and Implementation: Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive site-specific health and safety plans for construction projects. They support the implementation of these plans,monitorprogress, and adjust as necessary to ensure ongoing safety throughout the project lifecycle.

What You Bring:

• Minimum of 2-5 years of experience working in a heavy civil construction Health and Safety position.
• Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
• Completed or working towards a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification is considered an asset.
• CROR certification is preferred.
• PTScertificatoinis preferred.
• A valid G-class driver’s license isa must.
• Experience working on rail construction projects is an asset. Familiar with rail construction terminology
• Strong knowledge of the Health and Safety Act, and legislation.
• Ability to effectively communicate and present information to project management teams, subcontractors, and clients asrequired
• Ability to respond to unanticipated events.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Availability to work night shift hours which can range from 10:30 PM - 6:30 AM

Expected compensation for this role is between $70,000.00-90,000.00 annually.Base salaries aredeterminedaccording to multiple factors including skills,experienceand potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into consideration.
