Job summary

AltaSteel Inc. seeks a proactive Safety Advisor to join our Risk Management team.

You will provide expert health and safety guidance to operational teams and support the development and continuous improvement of safety programs across the organization. You will work closely with plant operations and frontline leadership to promote a culture of safety, ensure compliance with OH&S legislation, and support effective risk management practices.

Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) is an asset.
• NCSO Certification is an asset.
• At least 3 years experience in a Health and Safety field related role.
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are essential.
• Outstanding relationship building capabilities and a collaborative working style.

Responsibilities

• Provide health and safety advisory support to frontline supervisors and operational teams
• Promote and reinforce safe work practices and compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable legislation
• Support leadership and work teams in building safety awareness, hazard recognition, and safety leadership capabilities
• Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety programs and initiatives
• Conduct and support workplace hazard assessments, risk assessments and provide recommendations for hazard controls
• Participate in incident and near miss investigations, including identifying contributing and root causes and recommending corrective actions
• Provide guidance on the use of risk management and hazard identification tools
• Deliver safety orientations, training and awareness programs as required
• Monitor workplace practices and provide recommendations to improve safety performance
• Maintain current knowledge of safety practices, regulatory requirements, and industry standards through professional development and participation in industry networks
