Comox Valley Schools - School District 71 invites applications for the position of Library Technician - Elementary/Secondary, 6 hours per week, at a starting rate of $30.32 per hour plus 16.3% in lieu of benefits.
This temporary posting will end June 29, 2027 or upon return of the incumbent; initial location is anticipated to be at Aspen Park Elementary. District library staff support students and teachers across school sites.

Grade 12 education or equivalent, supplemented by completion of a formal library program diploma such as library technician; current experience in a school or public library; demonstrated ability in the use of computer technology in the context of a networked environment including: word processing, database management and automated library systems; familiarity with children's literature appropriate to the needs of the students; familiarity with reference and academic resources that pertain to curriculum learning outcomes if assigned to a secondary school; good knowledge of the English language, written and oral; demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and in support of their learning; demonstrated ability to problem solve and collaborate with staff; working knowledge of the French language if assigned to a school with a French Immersion program; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Duties are performed under the supervision of the school Principal or Vice Principal; follows the guidance and leadership of the Teacher Librarian; performs all required cataloguing and circulation of library and classroom resources; assists and supports the Teacher Librarian in collection management according to district policy and procedures; provides full service to staff and students in all aspects of library use, such as selecting and locating appropriate resources; managing access for classes and individuals to the library learning commons and supporting teachers and the district teacher-librarians with resource based teaching units; creates and maintains an attractive and appropriate library setting; maintains a record of lost or damaged books and reports results to the Teacher Librarian and/or school office administration; maintains a current inventory list of classroom and learning devices; assumes general supervision of the library facilities when a Teacher or Teacher Librarian is not present; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor; student supervision as required by the Principal or Vice Principal.
