404 Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital in Newmarket, Ontario is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician for the Surgery & Anesthesia Department. The role focuses on advanced anesthesia, perioperative care, and support of complex referral cases.

Candidates should have RVT in good standing or be eligible for registration, with emergency or surgical experience considered a strong asset. The position offers a four-day workweek and competitive compensation based on experience.

Qualifications

• Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) in good standing or eligible for registration.
• Prior emergency/surgical experience or a VTS designation (Surgery or Anesthesia) is a strong asset.
• In-depth knowledge of veterinary pharmacology, anesthesia protocols, and emergency triage.
• Strong technical skills in IV catheter placement, patient assessment, and laboratory diagnostics.

Responsibilities

• Advanced Surgical & Anesthesia Medicine: support complex referral cases with anesthesia, monitoring and perioperative tasks.
• Mentor and grow teammates; support development of veterinary assistants and practicum students.
• Surgical & clinical support: assist with surgical preparation, diagnostics, sterile procedures and treatments.
• Perform pre-anesthetic evaluations and pre-operative diagnostics.
• Provide patient care: catheter placement, medication administration, fluid therapy, lab sample handling.
• Monitor patients under sedation or anesthesia for safety and comfort.
• Assist during appointments and client communication.
• Prepare medications, discharge patients from surgery; manage records and inventory.
