Job summary

The Waterloo Regional Health Network is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse Unifor Service for the Guelph Satellite Dialysis Unit on a temporary full-time basis until June 2027. You will assist in coordinating nephrology nursing care for hemodialysis patients and collaborate with the care team to ensure safe, patient-centered service across shifts.

Applicants must hold CNO registration, have hemodialysis experience, and be capable of prioritizing in a busy environment.

Qualifications

• Current Certificate of registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
• Hemodialysis experience in acute or chronic settings preferred.
• Minimum two years medical/surgical experience preferred.
• BCLS required.
• Certification in Blood Bank administration, IV Drug Therapy and HD access management preferred.
• Completion of health assessment course preferred.
• Ability to assess independently and communicate with the team.
• Proficiency with computing basics and patient documentation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate total nursing care for a group of hemodialysis patients.
• Work with the interdisciplinary team to maintain professional standards.
• Support care for chronic kidney disease patients and ensure a safe environment.
• Prioritize patient needs and respond to emergencies as required.

Hours of Work: Monday-Saturday 0600-2330

Location: Guelph Satellite

Position Summary

The Registered Practical Nurse assists in the co‑ordination of total nursing care for an assigned group of hemodialysis patients. The RPN works closely with other nursing staff and patient team personnel, in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice within the clinical setting. Works with patients on a long‑term basis while demonstrating knowledge of care for the chronic kidney disease patient. Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Position Requirements

• Current Certificate of registration in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
• Applicants with current hemodialysis experience in acute and chronic settings will be given first consideration
• Minimum of two (2) years medical/surgical experience preferred
• BCLS required
• Certification in Blood Bank administration, IV Drug Therapy and Hemodialysis access management and hemodialysis machine operation preferred
• Completion of health assessment course preferred
• Demonstrated assessment skills and the ability to function independently
• Demonstrated communication skills necessary to interact with interdisciplinary team, patients, significant others, and general public
• Demonstrated knowledge and skill in caring for chronic patients and families
• Skilled in BG testing, 12 lead EKG’s, vital sign monitoring, IV therapy, aseptic technique and oxygen therapy.
• Responsible, energetic individual with above average ability to prioritize and organize in a busy environment
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a collaborative care environment
• Demonstrated positive relationships with other health care professionals and able to contribute to the development of an environment conducive to excellent patient care
• Ability to respond to emergency situations by rapidly identifying priorities and complex patient needs
• Demonstrated evidence of recent continuing education
• Basic computer skills
• Good attendance record

Salary and Dates

Salary: CAD 35.70-38.15
